EVERYTHING ON MY SPARKPAGE IS COPYRIGHT TO ME. PLEASE DO NOT USE WITHOUT PERMISSION. THANK YOU. While I've always been healthy and active (I love to dance and I walk and do yoga ) I've also been overweight (and occasionally obese) nearly my entire adult life. Finding Spark People in 2008 was the start of my journey to losing and (mostly) staying in a healthy weight range.

I have no desire to be skinny -- I have always loved my curves and being a woman of substance! -- but I do want to be sure I stay healthy and that I can move my body in ways that I enjoy.

My highest weight ever was 194 (that's considered obese). I started Spark at 184 -- and lost 26 pounds. My lowest weight was 158. I am now in July 2012 at 168..and I want to get back into healthy BMI range. I'm aiming for staying between 160 and 165.

I know how to lose weight and to maintain a healthy weight. I know what foods are healthy for me -- I enjoy eating healthy foods and being active!

Namaste, everyone.

My Goals:
Goals as of 1/3/11

* Find an alternative to African dance class this semester. Continue yoga and belly dance.
* Track food.
* Enjoy the pleasure of walking around in a healthy body.
* Drink water! Lots of it!
* Go to bed by 11 p.m..

My Program:
Recording my food, and getting my activities in! Eating mindfully and enjoying what I eat. I aim for eating local, whole, and organic foods. I tend to eat vegetarian, but am not averse to eating locally raised chickens and other meat. I use sugar addictively, so I'm shying away from it. I'm finding that once I'm "off" it, everything else tastes plenty delicious!

Personal Information:
I'm a dancer and can be persuaded to try just about any kind of dance. I do contra and square regularly, swing now and then, and cajun and zydeco when I can. I like to walk and swim, although it is not nearly as much fun as dancing! I also play stand-up bass and rhythm guitar when I get the chance. I'm a communications and conflict resolution consultant and trainer.

Other Information:
I read a lot of nonfiction, primarily books on spirituality and conflict resolution. Books currently by my bedside are The World Without Us, The Biology of Belief, and Aristotle and an Aardvark Go to Washington.

Thanks for getting back to me about the wheat! Excellent info. I'm struggling because I feed 4 of us. 1 other is willing to try - the other 2 are mutinous devils lol.

I know we all love enough foods that for the most part we could eliminate wheat. I need to plan meals so I don't have to think in the moment, I can just follow the plan. I want to choose dishes that will most likely make us go yum at the start so we want to continue. I'm good for the most part until supper when we all eat together and also when I'm at my grumpiest, least creative and most tired.

If I could plan a weeks worth of meals and buy all my groceries I'd be on my way, but so far it's been here and there. I really notice wheat and sugar being something I don't necessarily have to eliminate but keep in extreme moderation. I just feel better when I do.

Biggest problem is I love things like tortillas, corn chips, corn bread, and some desserts which use flour. If I could get rid of everything else, I think my body would allow the treats here and there, but to get to that point. Sigh. At least then the really would be treats!

I have a friend who has gone this route for a few years now. Need to sit down and have a good visit and steal some recipes I think.

Thanks again. CJ

Glad to know you are back. I have been here, as usual. Not eating very well, but have been exercising more, and my knees are getting stronger. My back is not bothering me much at all at this time, so I am going to take it slow and try to get back and knees strengthened, without hurting myself as I do when I get on the old "obsessive/compulsive" wagon.

I did enjoy the sunshine today. We are having some decent sunny weather right now.

I am really laughing at the "heavy digging. I meant to say heavy cleaning, guess I hit the wrong line. Will have to go back and see how many calories you get for that! LOL

I totally understand about food being the only comfort. I have been working on getting away from that. The only thing that seems to work at all for me, is to not put so much pressure on myself about what I eat, and when I exercise. I know that may sound counterproductive, but I try to make exercise something that I want to do. That way, I do it much more often. Not always easy, but it is a beginning.

As for the food, I know that I do better when I allow myself to consider that I can eat whatever I want, just within reasonable limits. Right now, I am not being all that successful, other than being able to stop the scale from going further up, but I know that in the past, that has worked for me, along with positive affirmation and just enjoying whatever comes that day.

I know this does not work for everyone, but when I lost the 70 pounds and kept it off for several years, that is what worked for me. I guess I have to fool myself.

Keep up the faith, it will come. Enjoy today as best you can.

I have my 3rd party today in the last two days, so did eat more yesterday than normal, but will do the best I can today. I am taking fresh fruit as I did yesterday.
Working on it.
