My Goals:
I am going to be running/walking my first 5K in October which i am currently training for. Very excited about this. Have never done anything like this before

My Program:
The nurse from the Weight Loss Institute is the one that suggested I get on this website and become a member. Orignally I thought that i was doing something wrong with what i was eating and have been keeping a food diary for the last 2 months. I finally realized that i needed to exercise to lose the weight that i wanted to. I now make exercise a part of everyday. I know i will reach my goal. I am just taking baby steps and making smaller goals i know i can reach

Personal Information:
My name is angela griesedieck i am 42 years old and live in st. louis, mo. I have been married for 12 years to edmund. If you can believe it we meet at a bar on st. patrick's day 1991. I have 2 children. Patrick who will be 18 on May 26th. He is getting ready to graduate from high school on May 29th. I am very proud of his accomplishments. He will be going to the local community college for the first 2 years and then transfer to a university. also have a 7 year old daughter Amelia. she is in 1st grade. I am very lucky to have her. When she was 3 they found a tumor on the top of her lung. it was really by luck that they found it. On January 31st she had the tumor removed. When it was sent to pathlogy they didn't find any cancer cells except in the middle. for the last 4 years we have been doing mri/ct scans every 6 months. In February her oncologist diagnosed her as being cancer free. We still have to do one more scan next year and that is it (yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Other Information:
I have 2 mini short hair daushaunds. Oscar is 8 years old. He is brown and black and getting up there in age. Has his good days and bad. As with all daushaunds has issues with is hips. Loves to lay outside in the sun. Then there is Tobi, he is my 1 year old daushaund. He has the same colors as a beagle (brown and white). Keeps Oscar on his toes. He is every bit of a puppy with lots of "babies" (toys) that "die" (being shaked back and forth) on a daily basis. you wonder where they get all of that energy. But just like a baby they run out ouf enery and crash and burn

I use one of those Leslie Sansone walking at home tapes. you need little space or I just walk around my house and jump on the elliptical macine I have when 'I dont get out,

Tea 'healthier' drink than water

Drinking three or more cups of tea a day is as good for you as drinking plenty of water and may even have extra health benefits, say researchers.

The work in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition dispels the common belief that tea dehydrates.

Tea not only rehydrates as well as water does, but it can also protect against heart disease and some cancers, UK nutritionists found.

Experts believe flavonoids are the key ingredient in tea that promote health.

These polyphenol antioxidants are found in many foods and plants, including tea leaves, and have been shown to help prevent cell damage.

Public health nutritionist Dr Carrie Ruxton, and colleagues at Kings College London, looked at published studies on the health effects of tea consumption.

They found clear evidence that drinking three to four cups of tea a day can cut the chances of having a heart attack.

Some studies suggested tea consumption protected against cancer, although this effect was less clear-cut.

Other health benefits seen included protection against tooth plaque and potentially tooth decay, plus bone strengthening.

Dr Ruxton said: "Drinking tea is actually better for you than drinking water. Water is essentially replacing fluid. Tea replaces fluids and contains antioxidants so it's got two things going for it."

Rehydrating

She said it was an urban myth that tea is dehydrating.

"Studies on caffeine have found very high doses dehydrate and everyone assumes that caffeine-containing beverages dehydrate. But even if you had a really, really strong cup of tea or coffee, which is quite hard to make, you would still have a net gain of fluid.

"Also, a cup of tea contains fluoride, which is good for the teeth," she added.

There was no evidence that tea consumption was harmful to health. However, research suggests that tea can impair the body's ability to absorb iron from food, meaning people at risk of anaemia should avoid drinking tea around mealtimes.

Dr Ruxton's team found average tea consumption was just under three cups per day.

She said the increasing popularity of soft drinks meant many people were not drinking as much tea as before.

"Tea drinking is most common in older people, the 40 plus age range. In older people, tea sometimes made up about 70% of fluid intake so it is a really important contributor," she said.

Claire Williamson of the British Nutrition Foundation said: "Studies in the laboratory have shown potential health benefits.

"The evidence in humans is not as strong and more studies need to be done. But there are definite potential health benefits from the polyphenols in terms of reducing the risk of diseases such as heart disease and cancers.

"In terms of fluid intake, we recommend 1.5-2 litres per day and that can include tea. Tea is not dehydrating. It is a healthy drink."

The Tea Council provided funding for the work. Dr Ruxton stressed that the work was indepen

Hi Angie! I read your post on the "lose 10 lbs in Sept" challenge. I don't have any fancy equipment either but I find Leslie Sansones Walk Away the Pounds videos are a really great workout. I do a 2 mile high calorie burn and the 3 mile boot camp on weekends and I love them. Hope that helps you and if you need help/support/motivation I'm here struggling as well emoticon
