I can do this - even in my 50's!

I am 53. I have been shocked to catch glimpses of myself in mirrors and have seen just how much I have gained. I never had a weight problem in my younger years and somehow, after three kids and years of sitting many hours at work, I let it all creep up on me.

I am married and have three sons (30, 18, and 13). I have four dogs and two spoiled cats that were adopted from the local shelter.

My Goals:
I want to lose 50 pounds during this (my 50th) year. Overall, I want to lose 75 pounds. I want to wear jeans that zip and do not have elastic in the waist. I want to be healthy and not have to worry about high cholesterol.

My Program:
I am working hard to make exercise a part of my life, which it has never been. I am trying to get in 30 minutes a day of cardio (recumbant bike, treadmill, etc) and I want to start adding some strength training. I am clueless about many exercise types.

Hi. Thanks for dropping by my blog. Sorry you didn't know about the walk today. You could have joined us. We actually came thru Seguin coming and going. Zuehl is at Exit 595 on I-10.

There is a Year Round event in Seguin hosted by the "Trinity Trekkers" walking club. Here is the flyer

To try it you can go to the start location listed. Request the walk box. Register as a "free walker". Take a set of directions and complete the walk. If you find you like doing these type of events you might want to contact the Trinity Tekkers to see what other events they have coming up.

Hello! I will take that picture. I have avoided cameras for years. Since I started gaining weight, I have hidden even more of myself. You know, I am trying to be more self-aware now. When I was 44, I went into menopause and did not even know it. My doctor denied that I was, saying I was too young. I was gaining weight like crazy, and of course, I did not get enough exercise. Sitting all day at work was tiring, and I did not take the time or learn that exercise would actually help me not be so tired. Anyway, a new doctor and several years later, I am slowly losing some weight again. I am trying to get in cardio most days (recumbent bike if nothing else) and I am planning on hiring a personal trainer in March, as our house will be sold by then and I can focus on new things. I am going to make 2009 a healthy year. Thanks for the reminder to take that picture and ackowledge my journey.

Thanks for stopping by my SparkPage.. I live in Central Texas - Belton.

We do seem to have some things in common. I use Leslie Sansone's WATP videos to do my cardios -- I try to do these at least 3 days a week. Three other days I work on strength training. I have been working with a personal trainer for almost a year now. This has been the best for me. I would go to the gym and not really know what to do or how to use the machines. She has taught me that. And.. it helps be to do the SparkPeople exercises better. You may want to check into that.

I know you said you don't have a picture to post. I would still strongly recommend you take a picture (you don't have to post it anywhere). But just keep it for reference and motivation.

Welcome to Spark People. I came across your page through the counselor group. I am a Marriage and Family therapist also. My husband and I have a practice together and we have a 4 1/2 year old daughter.
