Living Light in Iceland
I am working on my life long goal to get down to a normal weight. I have lost 10 pounds since coming to Iceland, but want to get the rest off. I am working on my life long goal to get down to a normal weight. I have lost 10 pounds since coming to Iceland, but want to get the rest off. I do weigh less now, than I did at age 15, so it is a start. But I will not stop until I reach my goal. Spark people is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I have support, encouragement, and resources to finally accomplish what I have tried my whole life! As a young girl, I was thin and active, but for some reason that all changed. I weighed 132 pounds at age 10. Of course, I was 5'8" at that time. That was the first time I started being called "fat" I was definitely not as skinny as the others in my class (and much taller) Ever since then I have been trying to lose weight, mostly without success. I had just settled for always being overweight. At age 17, I started in Restaurant Service as a prep-chef. I never left this field, and have been in it for 13 years. This definitely helped contribute to my weight gain. At age 20, I weighed 235 pounds. For many years I would not even step on a scale, because I didn't want to see what it said. Finally at age 25, I knew it was time to stop ignoring the problem, and try to fix it. I tried every fad diet and pill in the book, but the weight never stayed off. In a short period of time, it would come back. I did manage to keep below 220, but that was still too much. At 27, I joined a gym and started working out for the first time in my life. I saw some results, but not what I was hoping. In two years, I GAINED 13 pounds. Well, I had changed my eating habits....down to almost nothing. My coach kept telling me that I needed to eat more to lose, but I couldn't reconcile that in my mind. In 2004, God first pulled at my heart strings to be a missionary to Iceland. In 2007, that became a reality, and changed my lifestyle completely. I started walking everywhere, and eating for hunger only. Then I found Sparkpeople, and was given the opportunity to do the "impossible". I am down to the lowest weight I have ever been as an adult, and am still dropping! I am now a size 12-the last time I could wear a 12 was when I was 13 or 14. I am determined to make the lifestyle change and get this last 20-30 pounds off!!!! Thank you Spark people!!! And a big THANK YOU to my Sparkpeople family for all the support!!!!

My Goals:
My ultimate goal is to be a healthy and happy with myself...whatever the weight would be for that. I am hoping to be around 160-170 pounds....all of this by June 2009, for my friend's wedding.
My Program:
Fitness tracking, Nutrition tracking, and waist size tracking are the main methods I am using to reach my goals. I am from Indiana, but I live in Iceland right now. I am a student chef, studying for the Master Chef Certification. I have been in the field of Culinary Art for 13 years, and finally decided to get the Masters Degree. I work with a local church here in Iceland, as a missionary.
