Hi everyone! My name is Barb, I'm 42 & am a sahm. I have 2 children Adam 14, he's Autistic & my daughter Amanda who is 12 going on 21 lol. My hubby Norm and I have been married for 15 yrs.
I have been over~weight all my life. I have been on every diet under the sun short of an operation. Only once did I do it whole heartedly. All the other times was b/c everyone was telling me how fat I was. With the kids getting older it's harder for me to keep up and I'm realizing this. I'm (was) also a smoker since the age of 12 and never have REALLY tried to quit. When I was pregnant was the closest I'd ever come to quitting b/c a pack of cigarettes would last me a month. Oh, and another thing during both pregnancies I LOST 40 lbs!! Anyway, I've quit smoking (12/1/08) and I REALLY am into getting healthy. Since I got married I've gained 181 lbs and I don't mean my hubby! lol When I got married I weighed 225 and now (I'm SO EMBARRASSED TO SAY THIS) I'm at 406 the heaviest I've EVER BEEN! I don't know but seeing that it really scared me. Believe it or not this season of Biggest Loser & Ruby have really motivated me.
So, my plan of attack is, I've joined a gym right around the corner from my house. My hubby has joined too. I have a really good trainer who seems to really care. That's a huge plus. I'm going to take what I have learned over the years with Weight Watchers and other plans along with the Biggest Loser stuff and make a healthier lifestyle for me & my family. Thanks God both my kids are fine. I've always worried about that.
I CAN DO THIS! I HAVE to do this!! I know that I'll never be a skinny minny but if I can get back down to 225/200, that would be great! I know it's not going to happen over night nor would I want it to.

UPDATE~ 7/18/12
OK, so here I am what 3 yrs later and STILL THE SAME!!! But not giving up! I am now 45 yrs old and 2 years ago I had to place my son in a residential facility. TALK ABOUT DEPRESSED!!! OMG!!! I hit a all time low. It had to be done though or someone was going to get hurt. To be honest I was burnt out! Puberty hit my son and pow! He became violent. If we told him no for something it would become a fight and this was no place to have my daughter in also. I felt like I was picking one child over another. I was depressed b/c my son is supposed to be with me, I'm his mom and I should take care of him. We'd get to see him once a month for a home visit or take a ride to see him. He was anywhere for an hour and a half to two and a half hours away depending on traffic.

Well, it wasn't until this past Christmas while he was home that I FINALLY started seeing changes in him, how he handles himself. Our chats on the phone were better our home visits are better. I started feeling so much better, my daughter even was doing better and so was my husband. Well, 2 months ago we decided to move and we did! We moved to where we are only 20/30 mins away from my son and that's WITH traffic! lol A house that has more room and land. We went from inner city Philadelphia to Lancaster County where all you see is fields of corn and cows! lol It is so peaceful here. I'm not sleeping all day. I've been up by 10 am. Eating a little better. More active.

So, tonight while on my fb I see this challenge from Ruby. I click on it to see what it's all about and it got the fire started again! So here I am. Like she said not looking back. Not blaming anyone or thing for my weight. CLEAN SLATE! Just looking forward.

HERE WE GO..................

Thank God you get more than 1 chance! I may fail but I will NEVER give up on ME!! Ok so my son is on the road to being able to function better at home. We moved six months ago and I am now working. I was working full time for the past 5 months but have just cut back to only 32 hrs a week. I am still working on me. My biggest problem is MOTIVATION! When we moved here I was at 407 and today at the doctors I was 389.6. Not how much I would like in 6 months but it's not a gain. I'll take it. It seems that I get here and then BLAH sets in. We are no longer in the city so once the weather gets nicer we will be able to walk around. I would like to join a gym but here they are fair and few in between. I know we can do this w/o a gym. So ONCE AGAIN I embark on a HEALTHIER ME!!! Stay tuned....

Good Morning Barb just wanted to let you know I was thinking of you and hope everything is going ok for you

    My secrets are three:

Always track all my food. And anytime I am unsure its affect on my bottom line, I track it before I eat it. Then I can adjust it as need be.

Swim, swim, swim. I try to swim laps an hour and a half to two hours, four
    or five nights a week.

NEVER eat deep fried foods and NEVER drink soda. Baked or grilled options are flavorful (and won't damage your heart). Seltzer water with lemon or lime is a fizzy treat, that is a good substitute for soda.
