Four years ago, I kicked myself into gear and made a promise to myself to eat healthy and exercise regularly to get back into shape. I lost over 30 lbs, and managed to pack that back on (and then some). This is my journey to get healthy, get back into shape and start enjoying life to the fullest.

* I've 'yoyo'ed a lot since high school, and have struggled to maintain a regular, healthy weight. Even though I enjoy eating healthy and exercising, I have trouble being consistent and keeping up with healthy habits. I'm not only 'sparking' to lose weight, but to learn how to be successful with maintaining my weight and good habits once I reach my goals.

* I've lost almost 40 lbs since I started sparking. Here are a few of my suggestions to anyone who needs advice on how to get results:

-Drink water (and only water, if you can) - Aim for 8 glasses a day, but if you still feel thirsty, keep going!

-Use the resources here to track what you eat. Start out small, tracking one or two meals a day. Tracking is the only way to guarantee that you're consistently meeting your nutritional needs while getting the right amount of calories to lose weight.

-Get moving! Find an exercise that you enjoy, and stick with it. Start out small, and keep adding to what you're doing (longer workouts, more intense sessions, etc).

-Having trouble getting in your 5 servings of fruits and vegetables? You may think this sounds crazy, but green smoothies could do the trick (and make you feel amazing!) For more information, check out my blog about Green Smoothies -complete with recipes.

-Having a rough day? Write it down! Whether you keep a personal journal or write blogs here, it will help you to see the root of the problem and/or get support/advice from others. There are so many wonderful people here to support you (if that's what you're looking for)!

-Remember each new day is a chance to start over. Even if you made poor choices the day before, you have the option to change things! Don't let one mistake cause you to give up for a week, a month, etc. One mistake is not going to make you gain weight, but giving up for an extended period of time will get you farther away from your goals.

My Program:
Nutrition:
-Drink only water, coffee, and tea (and the occasional glass of wine...)
-At least 5 servings of fruit/vegetables every day (as many raw as possible)
-Whole grains
-Limited sugar intake
-Eliminate as much processed food as possible
-'Flexitarian' eating - mostly vegan/vegetarian with lean seafood/meats occasionally

Fitness:
Zumba 3x a week
Weight training at least 3x a week
Cardio other than Zumba at least 2x a week
