March 19 will be my second year anniversary with SparkPeople, doing Weight Watcher's Core program and eating vegetarian.
This past year showed me that my healthy lifestyle is here to stay. I've dropped about 110 pounds and maintained it. I have about 60 more pounds to drop and do have to admit to slacking off since losing so many pounds in my first year. But I'm OK with that and have ramped things up recently to get back into weight loss mode.
I faced a few personal challenges and difficult life changes over the past few months, but didn't put pounds back on - even lost a few.
Life is different - I tried Zumba classes and love them! I'm a regular at aqua aerobics, and dare I say, I even enjoy putting in some time on the elliptical and treadmill. I celebrated a milestone birthday with a hike, not with cake. I travelled to Japan and racked up the miles walking around Osaka and sightseeing in beautiful Kyoto. I bought a bicycle just before the winter and am looking forward to trying out the Erie Canal paths and local bike trails. I spent Christmas in South Beach Miami - strolling the sand in a bathing suit, with lots of energy for walking and dancing in the evening. I didn't get around to trying kayaking last year so its still on the list for this year.
I joined the local CSA again - much of my diet is organic vegetables, fruits and whole grains. I'm pretty creative with my vegetarian meals and after 2 years cannot see myself going back to eating meat.
I'm no food ascetic - I love good food and can balance that with healthy moderation. And you'll still find me enjoying dessert - just not at every meal.
Maintaining over the past year with no problems has given me the confidence to realize I can drop the fear of becoming the fat girl again. SparkPeople has given me the knowledge, the tools and the support I need to be successful.
And I'm developing a real love for clothes shopping. Since I've got so much more energy for going out, I need new outfits, right?
March 19 - It's my one year anniversary of joining SparkPeople, doing Weight Watcher's Core program and eating vegetarian.
2007 was the year of being successful when it came to my weight and my fitness.
I was ready to change my life. Back in mid-March 2007, I joined a Weight Watchers at Work 16 week session. I follow the Core plan and eat a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet. I've lost 96 pounds. And I'm pretty proud of myself!
SparkPeople has been a fantastic part of my success so far. I've learned how to be a healthy vegetarian. I've found lots of support and motivation over on the various Team Pages. I've been reading the articles, trying the exercise videos, looking up new recipes. I'm constantly giving out the web address - I love the community that's been built here.
What will my second year of Sparking bring?
I still have about 70 pounds or so to drop on my way to goal weight. I'm recommitted to my healthy eating, tracking my food, and learning more about being a healthy vegetarian.
I bought a share in a local organic farm - some grass-roots support from me for our local farmer and some very fresh veggies for me this growing season.
I set a concrete fitness goal - to go kayaking by Autumn. Never been. But gliding across a lake on summer afternoon looks fun. And it will give purpose to my workouts.
And I get to work on my personal clothing style. Lots of possibilities when you're not the fat lady. I'm looking forward to defining my own look, and getting my new wardrobe this year!
I feel so much better. I know I am healthier, less fat and more fit. I've added years to my life and I'm excited about what activities will fill those years. I've learned how to eat for life, and enjoy it and I know how to never diet. I've made lots of wonderful Spark friends who keep me inspired and motivated.
Thank you fellow Sparkers! I wouldn't be where I am or heading to my goals without you!
Develop healthy eating habits and an active lifestyle (I'm feeling confident enough to say this goal has been reached, now I just need to maintain these good habits).
Drop down to a healthy BMI, with good stats for cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar
(Blood work came back in September that says cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure are all within healthy ranges. BMI should get there with continued weight loss)
Big goal for 2007 is to drop 100 pounds total by year-end. Didn't quite make it, but I'll be there soon.
Goal for 2008 is to drop the remaining pounds and reach goal weight.
Joined Weight Watchers@Work, following the Core plan
Adopted a vegetarian diet
Making going to the gym a habit again. I'm exercising for at least 45 minutes of cardio and usually 90 minutes 6 days a week, and I'm adding in 3 session of weight lifting each week.
Using SparkPeople Teams to learn about vegetarian recipes, and to join fitness and weight loss challenges to keep up my motivation and excitement.
