I'm a 35 year old, full-time working mom raising a five year old boy. I want to live a healthier lifestyle (I'm trying to focus on fit rather than thin) to be a good example to my son, teach him healthy living habits and to live long enough and be fit enough to enjoy my retirement, my son as an adult and to play with any grandchildren I might have in the future.

I was born and raised into an overweight household and I've been overweight my whole life. I had bariatric gastric bypass surgery in 2009, lost about 60 pounds; looked and felt great (I was no longer obese although I was still overweight)! I quit smoking a year later and gained back about 35 of those pounds. That was emotionally & psychologically devastating for me! A year after that I started working out at home, waking up early to fit in a workout before my son woke up. That was (& is) the hardest part--making the choice between sleep and workouts, but it's the best fit for our life and lifestyle. I started slow, with yoga and stretching videos, as well as fitness ball workouts to strengthen my core. I haven't lost any weight, but I see changes in my body and in my physical abilities. I've also gotten to the point where I don't feel good mentally if I have missed a few workouts. I love that!!! I love that fitness has become a regular part of my life and that my mind and body crave the benefits of it. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of people in my life that I feel I can celebrate those little milestones with, so I'm starting a page where I can write about my little successes--write about them for myself to celebrate my accomplishments; to be able to look back and see those little milestones for encouragement to see how far I've come.
