I just get tired of trying and stopping and trying. I am tired of being 'on a diet'. I get resentful and rail against life because other people can 'eat normally' and have a life and why does mine have to be different.

Sometimes I get tired of being tired. Of feeling old. Of being limited in my body. I get tired of not 'fitting' places. I get tired of struggling to do basic daily tasks easily. I get tired of feeling deprived and out of it.

But I heard Tom Petty once say he was not going to bemoan getting old because the alternative was worse. (dying) And I have to keep thinking of this in those terms.

When I quit struggling, trying, failing, beginning again- then I won't be ABLE to do any of that. I'll either be dead or maybe I'll be in a care facility where people have to take care of me because I can't. And THAT alternative is far, far worse than being tired of trying.

My Goals:
Getting healthier day by day and being the healthiest person I can be at any size.

My ticker represents incremental goals. Recent tracker was set on 2/5/13.


My Program:
2012: 1350-1750 calories. Modified paleo: Only meat, fish, tubers, beans, veggies and fruit. Limited dairy. No more than 100 g. carbs daily and aim for 100 g. protein daily. No sugar. Gluten free.

I live in Evanston, Wy. I've been married to the love of my life and best friend for over 30 years. We have 3 sons. I work full time in Adult Education.

Other Information:
I LOVE to travel. I enjoy cross stitch, genealogy research and reading as hobbies. I particularly like books about history. I love rock and roll music and oldies from the 50's and 60's and 70's and 80's (gosh how old AM I?)

A SPARK Garden For Spring

In my garden, I would first plant five rows of peas:
Planning, perseverance, politeness, participation and prayer.

Next to them I would plant three rows of squash:
Squash junk food, squash negativity, squash high calorie foods.

Then, I would put in five rows of lettuce:
Let us be supportive, let us be encouraging,
let us be motivating, let us be inspiring, and
let us share the Spark love.

No garden in complete without turnips and mine would have:
Turn up with positivity, turn up with a good attitude,
turn up with strong participation, turn up the effort,
turn up the intensity, turn up the fitness time. and
turn up SPREADING THE SPARK!
