Hi! I’m Becky, the Registered Dietitian with Sparkpeople. I live on my “family farm” in southern Indiana with my husband, daughter, and son. It is a small rural community. The closest fast food restaurant is 20 miles away and the nearest shopping mall requires a 50 minute drive. Yes, it is slightly slower-paced, but a pace that I cherish.

I enjoy working in my vegetable garden, preparing new recipes, sewing, and walking in my woods with my canine companions, Roxie and Cassius. My children will tell you that I am fixated on eating meals together as a family at the kitchen table. This is often the only chance to connect and catch-up. It is a time to comfort the pains of the day and celebrate the joys of living.

I also admit that I am a techno-nerd. I do not Twitter. I cannot Facebook. Heck, I don’t even own a cell phone. However, I do enjoy connecting with others at Sparkpeople as we journey together to improve our health. So join me, as we:

Ignite our inner fire,
Fuel the blaze daily,
And spread the SPARK to others.

Nutritionally Yours, Dietitian Becky

Becky, thank you so very much for the response to the Wheat Belly and it's cookbook on the Nutrition Forum. I read the link which you provided in its entirety. Once again thank you for your help in this matter. emoticon

Hi Becky! I am back at spark. I don't want to go into all the details of my life, suffice to say there have been 4 deaths in my immediate family, the death of a personal friend just recently, and back surgery in the past 5 years. Like one per year. So with that out of the way, I am back on track hopefully.

I am working with my health care advocate, using a pedometer & they want me to do a goal of 4,000 steps a day & then 28,000 weekly. But just walking at least 30 minutes a day at a good clip is having me cover around 3,500 but not including all the other steps in just daily life.

I am aiming to increase my walking and pace little by little each week. Using the "Walk Your Butt Off" book by Prevention.

My question is, if I am tracking both my nutritional needs and my walking and I am suppose to burn 600 some odd calories for the week, how is that going to help me lose weight? I don't understand.

Can you help me out please? I need to lose about 49 pounds.
Thank you in advance for any info you can provide for me.

Thanks Becky for the spark goodie!
I realized the other day I had not added you as a friend even though I had been in touch with you pretty often, so I thought I'd better add you as one. Thanks for the add back too.

I noticed you like to do gardening and yard work for exercise. I do too!
