Nutritionally Yours

Hi! I’m Becky, the Registered Dietitian with Sparkpeople. I live on my “family farm” in southern Indiana with my husband, daughter, and son. It is a small rural community. The closest fast food restaurant is 20 miles away and the nearest shopping mall requires a 50 minute drive. Yes, it is slightly slower-paced, but a pace that I cherish.

I enjoy working in my vegetable garden, preparing new recipes, sewing, and walking in my woods with my canine companions, Roxie and Cassius. My children will tell you that I am fixated on eating meals together as a family at the kitchen table. This is often the only chance to connect and catch-up. It is a time to comfort the pains of the day and celebrate the joys of living.

I also admit that I am a techno-nerd. I do not Twitter. I cannot Facebook. Heck, I don’t even own a cell phone. However, I do enjoy connecting with others at Sparkpeople as we journey together to improve our health. So join me, as we:

Ignite our inner fire,
Fuel the blaze daily,
And spread the SPARK to others.

Nutritionally Yours, Dietitian Becky

That's interesting, I just listened to that segment yesterday, too. I enjoyed hearing about how those early settlers ate and prepared food. Thanks, Becky. :)

I'm listening to the "What Did George Washington Eat" clip on Spark People Radio. Very interesting! Thanks!

Dear CHRISEATEN--
I normally respond to comments using your sparkpage or spark-mail. You may want to set these features up for better correspondence with members in the future.

I usually tell people who are starting into the vegetarian world---to go slowly and build your recipes. Go to your local library and check out books and cookbooks and cooking magazines. Then plan some new meals to try each week. Buy the necessary ingredients. Keep the recipes you enjoy to use again. Keep trying new ones and gathering more ideas. By moving slowly and building your knowledge and recipes---you will find it more enjoyable and less frustrating.

Hope this helps
Dietitian Becky

Hi Becky...trying to get started on eating healthier for vegetarian...do you have any suggestions...I'm also a very emotional eater and I tend to binge...what can I do to keep myself from continuing with this behavior?
