Hi! Im Becky, the Registered Dietitian with Sparkpeople. I live on my family farm in southern Indiana with my husband, daughter, and son. It is a small rural community. The closest fast food restaurant is 20 miles away and the nearest shopping mall requires a 50 minute drive. Yes, it is slightly slower-paced, but a pace that I cherish.

I enjoy working in my vegetable garden, preparing new recipes, sewing, and walking in my woods with my canine companions, Roxie and Cassius. My children will tell you that I am fixated on eating meals together as a family at the kitchen table. This is often the only chance to connect and catch-up. It is a time to comfort the pains of the day and celebrate the joys of living.

I also admit that I am a techno-nerd. I do not Twitter. I cannot Facebook. Heck, I dont even own a cell phone. However, I do enjoy connecting with others at Sparkpeople as we journey together to improve our health. So join me, as we:

Ignite our inner fire,
Fuel the blaze daily,
And spread the SPARK to others.

Nutritionally Yours, Dietitian Becky

Hi I just started. I wanted to know how do I take a recipe that I am making and find out how many calories in that and how many per serving? I have a soup recipe that takes one can of canninelli beans one pakg frozen spinach one onion 2 tbs minced garlic and 8 cups chicken broth. It is so good but I don't know if you take all the calories and add the ingredients up and that is the calories and fat and protein for all uuuuuggggg. If you know please let me know email me at yathink71670@yahoo. thanks

    Hi Becky,
I am new here and trying to find a reference source on how to count foods for low-carb and ketone diet. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.

    Hi-it's me again! lol!!!
That's a good question to ask myself---I like to go for walks--and that's as close as my front door. I also like to DIG! lol! I'm a gardener by trade. but, can't always do that. I also like to meditate, and that would be helpful-especially since it is calming, and feels like I've been angry a lot lately. :: sigh :: I like to dance around my front room to old songs from the 70's or some funk...just moving the body, ya know?

It is feeling great to be getting back in the fitness mode--I've been doing strength training (at home) and going for walks. I'm making progress with the scale, so that's positive reinforcement!

I have a friend who lives in Quincy, IN. She also is in the middle of a quiet country life, and they seem to like it.

If you ever get to the Terre Haute area (well, really, it's by Centerville), there's a very cool place called the Exotic Feline Rescue Center--it cost something like $10/person to get in, but they are a rescue center for animals that shouldnt be pets--tigers particularly, and lions & other big cats. I highly recommend it--it's a nice tour of the place. Took my Girl Scout troop there, back when I had a troop--it's a very interesting place!

Nice to touch base with you!

Hello! It feels like going out on a limb, a little bit, adding you as a Spark friend--so thanks for acknowledging me so quickly with a little happy face! I have read many of your articles on SP and have found them helpful. I was browsing through different pages/comments here on SP, and I thought--why not add her? So, here we are. Hello!

I know for me, that knowing what I'm eating is important--yet I resist tracking food. I believe I eat foods that are good for me--only too much of it. Of course, I have foods that I seem to over-indulge in--namely ice cream. Eating seems to be just one component of my healthy life-style journey. Exercise is, once again, becoming a regular part of my life. Seems that a healthy life-style has many components--and for me, one of those components is taking care of myself physically and emotionally. I do tend to be an emotional eater & that is a problem.

anyway. maybe tmi as I introduce myself to you...guess that's me, though! :)
Thanks for your work on SP!

I love your goals. I admire living more simply. Those electronics suck up allot of time that's for sure. I look forward to learning more about proper nutrition, myths etc. . emoticon
