Yep thats me at the left in that picture. The picture that "sparked" my diet. I gained 20 pounds over the last two years while in college. Sitting on my butt and eating junk. No exercise. Letting my muscles atrophy. Before starting college I was in shape. I went to the Y everyday and felt great. Then I let it all go. Now it's time to get back into shape and quit feeling sorry for myself. I started my journey in June at 167. It's now August and I am down 12 pounds. I hope to continue at this ...
I hope to continue at this rate and be at my goal by March 2012. I started my weight loss journey on the Dukan diet, a low carb low fat diet. That lasted 18 days, I love fruit and this was not a diet I could stick with much longer. Then I tried juicing. You never know how difficult it is to try and drink your meals until you actually do it. Seems easy but it was the most difficult thing I have ever tried. More power to the people who can do it, but it's not for me. Then I saw a documentary on the benefits of being vegan and how bad meat is for our bodies. I figured what the heck? I'm not much of a meat eater anyway I might as well try it. It has been so easy. But like with any diet you can gain weight if you don't watch. The key is not eating any processed foods. I eat only fresh fruit and veggies, beans, tofu, brown rice and many other good things. I have finally found a "lifestyle" change I can stick with. I have more energy now than I have had in a long time.

Look how close you are to breaking that 155 mark!!! Amazing! I'm so jealous!
I weighed in at 172 on Sat morning, which was my goal for last week. I was ecstatic! Then, for some reason, I am at 178 now! 6 friggin' lbs in 4 days?!? I know one main reason, and without disclosing too much, let's just say I haven't "went" since Friday. LOL But can that really cause a 6lb gain?!? I have eaten a Fiber Plus bar the past couple days, been eating a lot more fruits and veggies, taken two doses of Benefiber, and doubled up on one of my Rx that usually helps...and so far no luck! Grrr!
I started my running on Sun night, but my hubby couldn't make time to run w/me last night, so now I'm already off schedule. I'm bummed. He told me I just need to suck it up and do it by myself and stop being so self-conscious. I told him I'm sure after a week or two, I'll be OK. But I just need that support right now, and he's bailing on me.
Well hope you got the kiddos all ready for school! I definitely can't wait 'til next Thursday! I remember reading something on your page at one point that your hubby is going back to school this fall? Is this also at Belmont Tech? My hubby just got enrolled the other day and starts the paramedic program mid-Sept!

Hey Dianne! How have you been doing?!? I haven't been on here much...mostly just logging my fitness when I remember. Not doing anything special right now, and it shows. I'm stuck at 174lbs, even though I'm walking 5 miles/day most days. Getting a little discouraged. Please give me some good news on your end!

I LOVE the advice about the dress! I actually have one I wore to my cousin's wedding 4 years ago that is just a generic size Large. I was right around 160-165 then, so it should be a good goal! Heck, I may be broke and have to wear it again anyway! LOL Maybe it'll be a good thing if it fits!
I did the unthinkable today...I joined the YMCA!! We got a family membership at a good price. I am so paranoid about working out in front of people, but I'm gonna get over it pronto! We have a little satellite Y in Dennison (only open 3-8p) that I will probably hit up most often, then go to Dover when I can. Talked to my friend Jen who just took up running, and I think we are going to do the Cleveland Marathon on May 20, 2012! We have 299 days to train! I figure even if I run half/walk half, I can say I completed a marathon =)
So with the Vegan thing...what is there left to eat!? Soy cheese just doesn't sound appetizing! lol I know I need to broaden my horizons, and I may learn to tolerate tofu, soy, etc. But it just doesn't sound good!!!
Oh, and the Yard...ever had the "Ravioli- Yard Style"? It has both marinara and alfredo sauce and you can get it w/meat, cheese or a combo of both. OMG! To die for!!! I'm sure it's not vegan though...if you ever have a cheat meal, make it that! LOL

Ugh. This past week has been awful!!! I didn't log any food, and I didn't log any exercise 'cuz I didn't do any!!! And the scales definitely showed it...gained 3lbs! Blah. Hope your 2nd attempt at juicing has been successful! I can't remember what your scale said, but I see you are almost at the 10lb mark, which is awesome!

I want to eat more fresh foods, I really do, but it's so hard! I bought a watermelon, and have eaten the whole darn thing in a day and a half by myself! I mean, that's not too bad, but where's the variety? My salads consist of romaine lettuce, cheese, bacon, and dressing. Sometimes I add cucumbers and tomatoes, only other veggies I like. Wish I could do carrots, peppers, etc, but ewwww! Give me any fruit though and I'm happy. We have the cutest little old man who sits at the intersection about 1/2 mile from our house and sells produce. But do you think I ever have cash on me!? I need to start thinking ahead.

Oh, and about the 5K---the restaurant is the Dennison Yard in Dennison. Ever heard of it? It's pretty yummy! All Italian food though. I've never heard of Francis Family Restaurant...is that in Cambridge area? I need to start my 5K training. We have a wedding to go to Sept.10th, so I'm setting some new short-term goals around that. Gotta wear a dress, and I wanna look hot =) lol

Sorry to hear that kale is not very pleasing to your palate! lol We went grocery shopping, but only had a budget of $100 and that included toilet paper, razors, etc. So needless to say, didn't get much food! I did get some fruits and veggies, but not enough to start making smoothies for every meal! There's always next week...
Glad to hear you'd be interested in the 5K! We might be making it afternoon/evening of Oct.2nd (which happens to be our 7yr anniversary...sigh). We have a really good Italian restaurant in our town, and we are going to talk to the owner about doing a fundraiser there...5K would start & finish there, which will encourage runners & their families to eat there, and then he'll donate 10% of sales to the cause.
