Hi Beejay,

I used to work for the United States National Institute os Standards and Technology. There was a group at NIST that was responsible for converting US industry to the SI system. (Note: There are actually quite a few metric systems - the Système international d'unités or SI system was standardized in 1960)

Anyway, this group at NIST had to give a progress report regarding the adoption of the SI system. The project manager stood up and said, "We are inching along!"

When I ran track in high school I was a half miler. Now, the 1/2 mile has been changed to the 800 meter. Not exactly the same distance but close.

I am pretty hopeless when it comes to measurements. I have never run a 5K race, I have run many 3.10685 mile races.

Thanks, Bruce

Thanks for your comment on my "dirt running" blog. I like the mountains. I was born in Colorado. I lived in south Texas for a year, which is the US version of Australia. I actually didn't mind not getting snowed on. Right now, it is -9C here and the snow is 80 Centimeters deep. (I did the imperial to metric conversion just for you!) FYI - that is a lot of snow and a lot of cold!

Thanks, Bruce
