Dreaming in the desert ...

I share my home and life with 4-footed friends - 2 cats (Starkist & Shadowspawn), & 3dogs. My little dogs are smallest dogs I''ve ever had - Shalako the Pomeranian, Samurai the Papillon, and Spartacus the rescued chihuahua (also known as "the little weasel"). We''ve been walking about 30 minutes to 2 hours daily.

I got the lap-band surgery in Nov 06. So far, I''ve lost over 120 pounds (3/9/10). Recently changed my end goal to even less. (155). Sigh ...

I''m an RN and work 12 hour night-shifts - boy, does that throw your metabolism off! I have things planned in the daytime for my days off, and have to sleep in the daytime on work days. All the tips for improving sleep say "set a routine and stick to it". Uh, huh - that''ll work.

My Goals:
Mini goal - I'm gonna bust thru 200 by the end of July!! DID IT!!! 7/13/09

Finally made 2 separate week weigh-ins of less than 175 - yeah! 3/14/13

Get in shape so my knees don't keep stressing.

Guess I'd better give up on retiring any time soon!

My Program:
Walking my little dogs every day. Throwing in strength exercises while I wait for the sniff breaks for them.

Personal Information:
Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.
Groucho Marx

If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat.
Mark Twain

I always like a dog so long as he isn't spelled backward.
G.K. Chesterton

Other Information:
I'm a reader. Can't go to the bathroom without book in my hand (even if I don't open it in the little room). Love my cats and dogs.

When you don't think the program will work, remember the motto: Try it our way for at least 6 weeks and if you are not satisfied we will gladly refund your misery

Wow, DESERTDREAMERS, you have quite a history and have seen a lot of the world! You've lived in or very close to my old haunts. I also used to live in St. Simons, Georgia, just down the road from Savannah, and we've probably driven a lot of the same streets in Augusta. But I've never been to the Southwest, where you are now, although I'd like to see the sights and sample the dry air there someday.

I did basic at Ft McMuffin (McClellon(sp?)) Alabama. I flew from Boise, ID snow to Atlanta to board the bus to basic. I just howled when I saw Matthew Broderick in "Biloxi Blues" get off that bus and say, "Oh this is too hot. I can't stay here. This is like Africa hot." I could so totally relate. I come from high desert country and was not used to that humidity. Never got used to it either. Was stationed at Ft Bragg-whadda-dragg, NC for 3 years and never 'acclimated'. I swore to God that I would never again complain about the cold if he would just get me out of that heat and humidity. That 'super-saturated air' was not something I ever hope to experience again!! Most mornings were like walking out into a sauna!!

"Making changes in your life is never an easy task. The key, however, is not to get caught up in the distance you have to go to get to where you want to be. Nor should you despair over the amount of control you have over your circumstances. Progress is made in the small, intentional steps, and chances are, you have more power than you think. By focusing on little steps you can take every day, the progress you make will motivate you to continue your journey, and eventually, you can go wherever you want to go. The important thing is simply to begin."

I totally agree that the new helmuts are the worst EVER!! The old 'steel pots' were good for many things and keeping your brains in was just one of them. The new ones certainly do bounce your brain around and the covering over the ear is not the smartest thing for listening to what might be coming at you. More of our $600 toilet seat research and development...or is it someone's brother-in-law from the defense contractors committee selling them this junk?
