I share my home and life with 4-footed friends - 2 cats (Starkist & Shadowspawn), & 4 dogs. My little dogs are smallest dogs I''ve ever had - Shalako the Pomeranian, Samurai the Papillon, and Spartacus the rescued chihuahua (also known as "the little weasel"). I recently (Jan 2017) adopted a chihuahua/Boston terrier mix, Sharona. I'd forgotten how active & destructive puppies can be! We''ve been walking about 30 minutes to 2 hours daily.

I got the lap-band surgery in Nov 06. So far, I''ve lost over 120 pounds (3/9/10). Recently changed my end goal to even less. (155). Sigh ... about 25 pounds have found their way back.

I''m an RN and work 12 hour night-shifts - boy, does that throw your metabolism off! I have things planned in the daytime for my days off, and have to sleep in the daytime on work days. All the tips for improving sleep say "set a routine and stick to it". Uh, huh - that'll work.

My Goals:
Mini goal - I'm gonna bust thru 200 by the end of July!! DID IT!!! 7/13/09

Finally made 2 separate week weigh-ins of less than 175 - yeah! 3/14/13

Get in shape so my knees don't keep stressing.

Guess I'd better give up on retiring any time soon!

My Program:
Walking my little dogs every day. Throwing in strength exercises while I wait for the sniff breaks for them.

Personal Information:
Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.
Groucho Marx

If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat.
Mark Twain

I always like a dog so long as he isn't spelled backward.
G.K. Chesterton

Other Information:
I'm a reader. Can't go to the bathroom without book in my hand (even if I don't open it in the little room). Love my cats and dogs.

When you don't think the program will work, remember the motto: Try it our way for at least 6 weeks and if you are not satisfied we will gladly refund your misery

Sorry that was confusing... Dr Mason swam alone (well the swimming was solo, accompanied by safety boats and crew)... she BEAT the time of the 16 year old.

You, my friend, always seem to get it said with a true economy of words. Thank you. It's the first day of summer, and I feel great....lots of support.

Thank you for the comment you left about my little Nipper cat. You have animals so you know how heartbreaking it can be when one of them isn't well. I had her declawed when she was a kitten and I thought the nail was growing back after 16 years. I took her to the vet who said she suspected cancer. In case it was a regrowth in nail, the vet gave her an antibiotic shot and a pain shot. She gave Nipper a head cone to wear to keep her from liking her toe. She is so funny cuz it throws her off balance and she walks into things. But she's getting used to it. She goes back to the vet in 10 days. If not better, they'll have to amputate her toe.

We live kinda in the country and when we first moved here 16 years ago we found Nipper as a small kitten. She had gotten herself stuck up in a tree and was yelling at the top of her lungs. We rescued her and have had her ever since. I love that cat.

In reading your profile, I found that we have a lot in common. Although retired now, i'm 63, I too, worked 12 hour shifts as a Critical Care Nurse. I worked 7p to 7a-now that's really got to mess up your metabolism. I had bariatic surgery and went from 258 lbs to 146 lbs. But I wasn't vigilant and am back up to 166 now. I am trying to get back down and go to the gym six or seven days a week.

I have enjoyed Spark People and made some good friends. Thanks for your concern and well-wishes for Nipper's health. (We have five feral cats who have found their way to our house. I love my little animals-we have a chihuahua and two birds too.)

Best wishes on your efforts to lose weight and thank you for your concerns for Nipper.

    Spark on,
    marcey and Nipper
