My title is lifted from a book, but I think it accurately conveys what I have become. I love this idea! :)

Recovering from a major back injury last summer--herniated my L5-S1 disk. After two rounds of epidural steroid injections, I'm finally feeling good enough to get back to walking for exercise. I've gained some weight from the steroids, and I'm not feeling that great about myself. However, I know I will feel better if I get some of this weight off. So back to eating better and exercising more so I can improve my health without reinjury.

My Goals:
Having to rethink these after my back injury. Right now, small steps:
--walk an 18-minute mile pace
--Start training for the 2017 Flying Pirate Half Marathon
--lose 20 pounds
--reduce blood pressure medications (back injury started a cascade effect with other chronic issues, especially my BP)


My Program:
Concentrating on creating a solid exercise habit. I know how to make good food choices; sometimes it's more difficult than others to follow through on that. I tend to eat better when I feel better, so I expect things will improve over time. I eat mostly plant-based.



Personal Information:
My name is Christine, and I live in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I have some chronic health issues that I live with, including PCOS, high blood pressure, chronic knee and joint problems, and degenerative disk disease. I was also diagnosed with a fatty liver in 2012. I herniated my L5-S1 disk in the summer of 2015 and am still recovering from that injury. These issues aren't keeping me from trying to get more active--I've discovered one of the best ways to do this is to set event goals for myself...to get outside and train for them!
