I was just diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes this month - October 2010. I am not surprised as there are many people on my mother's side of the family who have it. I am going to classes and learning how to balance carbohydrates and proteins.

My Goals:
I want to lose 50 pounds.
I want to exercise at least every other day.
I want balancing my proteins and carbohydrates to become second nature.

My Program:
**I am tracking my foods on a daily basis and staying under 1400 calories.
**I am either walking or doing an exercise video at least every other day.
**I am attending nutrition classes.
**I am reading a variety of cookbooks to select diabetes friendly recipes
**I am doing online research about diabetes and getting recipes

Personal Information:
My name is Dee and I am from Washington state.
I am retired as of April 2010. . I spent 15 years teaching 6th grade, 6 years selling real estate, 3 years with Verizon Wireless and 9 years working in the learning centerat a private university.


Other Information:
I am a quilter albeit not a very good one; I make most of my quilts for charity through my quilt guilds.
I like to read and always have at least one book going.
I am married and have a great husband who is also retired.
I have 3 step children and 4 step grandchildren.
