I'm on a mission to reach my goal weight before I turn 30. I'm tired of being the funny, fat chick. All my life, I have been overweight. I remember being in 3rd grade and being teased by 3 boys (who I wound up knowing all throught my school years) who called me "Brontosaurus." I never had much self-confidence with men, which lead me to a streak in high school of binge drinking and countless one-night stands. I thought a fun party girl attitude could find me a boyfriend. Ha! I'm suprised it didn't find me an STD or seven. I was active in high school, where I played four years on our fast-pitch softball team, but I never was able to lose any weight. I also continued to play softball for a few years after graduation, but not even 2-3 hour practices in the summer heat helped the weight come off. When I finally met the man who I'd marry in 2000, I began to realize that it was going to take more than that. I successfully lost around 60 pounds in 7 months during his first deployment to Afghanistan, but shortly after, the weight came back. I went to the gym off and on for the next several 5 years, maybe losing a few pounds here and there, but with few real results. Then I got pregnant. I got to my highest weight of 312. I knew as soon as I met my son that I needed to lose the weight. My father died when I was young (not due to weight-related issues) and I know how hard it is to lose a parent. I want to be a good example to my husband, my family, friends, and especially my now 2-year old son.

This is a lifestyle change for me, not a diet. This is my one true effort where, when I consider giving up, I ask myself this: how much do you want it? I want it bad. I'm not giving up this time. My son is worth it, and I am worth it.

As of March 3, 2010, I weighed 262. I lost 22 pounds before starting SparkPeople. I hope to be even more successful from this point.

I have a great family and friends, so I am very blessed. I hope that during my journey towards a healthier lifestyle, I will be able to enjoy life even more.
