Good Morning Debby, So Glad you had a wonderful trip to Ohio. We deffinately are not short on Good Food... DC was a Blast but as always, to short. It was so nice to see our only grandchild, Annaliese. Our second one is due the end of November (a boy). Yes, now we have to get back to Normal.... Have a super Week. OXOX Patti
Well, Have fun in Cleveland. I'm about 30 mins from Cleve and about 10 min's from the Middlefied Amish. there is another bigger Amish area just south of Canton Ohio on Rt 77 which is probably the one you are going to. (You pass it coming and going if you will be travelling Rt 77) The only suggestion about the Amish is that you get off the main roads and go thru where they live. Most Amish have businesses and workshops in their homes. What they make and sell out of their homes is also sold in the touristy shops. You can get the same things at their homes and cheaper. They are all so welcoming. Don't take their pictures andthey don't like being touched by strangers. No shaking hands unless they offer first. Do try their cheese, fudge and canned goods. They also have great recipe books and the Best Bread Ever....Beautiful Quilts and Furniture. (I could live there) On your way up on Rt 77, there is a place called Tamarack (I believe exit 45 in W. Va) Right off the exit is a funny looking building with points around the top. It has all kinds of crafts and music, pottery, cloths etc. all made by crafters in W.Va. Wonderful place for Christmas gifts... We are going to Wash DC on 10-15 to 10-17 so I'm hoping the leaves will be at their peak going thru the mountains. We are almost there and next weekend and the following , the leaves should be perfect. To bad we can't meet as you will be so close. You're Welcome for the recipe. I'm so sold on doing my diced tomatoes that way as they do stay so nice and firm. Have a fun time on your trip. Stay Safe, Healthy and Happy. OXOX Patti PS I did add you as a SparkFriend. I hope that was OK????
Hi there...Where are you coming in Ohio? I'd be glad to show you if you have time and are in my area. My Step Daughter lives in Raleigh. Are you close to there? Just in case you didn't get my recipe for putting up dices tomatoes in the over on the thread, here it is...It's so easy...
Hi DEBBYSDELIGHTS... How to Do Diced Tomatoes in the Oven... 1. Wash tomatoes. 2. Take off skins by boiling a pot of water. Poke tomatoes with a knife...Drop tomatoes in 6-8 at a time, depending on pot size. Leave in boiling water 30 seconds to 1 minute and then put immediately into cold water. Skins will fall off. 3. Core and deseed tomatoes and cut into whatever size you want. (Quarters or pieces.) 4. Heat jars and put a pot of water to boil on stove. 5. Fill hot jars with tomatoes. 6. OOPS...preheat oven to 210 degrees F. 7. ladle boiling water over tomatoes and put on 2 pc lids and tighten. 8. Put jars in preheated oven so as to NOT be touching, all at once. 9. Leave in oven for 1 hour. DO NOT OPEN OVEN AT ALL..... 10. After 1 hr, turn off oven...AGAIN, DO NOT OPEN OVEN AT ALL...The cold air rushing in will crack your jars.... 11. Leave in oven for at least 1 to 1 1/2 hrs, after the original hour, to cool or till room temperature. 12. Take out of oven and let stand on counter for 24 hrs. They will still be nice and crisp and NOT Mushy. You can add salt if you want...1/2 tsp for pints, 1 tsp for quarts. ** Can put pints and quarts into the oven at the same time for the same 1 hr.... at 210 degrees. Hope this makes sense...Enjoy Patti
