I Started SP the end of Jan. 2009. Briefly, I have always had some issues with my weight. I had had some success with diets, most notably WW where I was able to get down to 138 very briefly and settled into 143 comfortably. My lifetime WW weight goal was 153 which was easily bypassed at that time.

Sadly, I made the huge dieters mistake of thinking of it as something with a beginning and an end and once I was no longer tracking all my food and exercise I fell back into old habits.

So in the years after WW I struggled just to keep from zooming totally out of control.

When I found SP in Jan. I was determined that this was not a diet. A beginning yes....the first day of the rest of my life sort of thing....but no end....this is a healthy lifestyle quest and it has to be habits that last forever. So at this point, I haven't met my weight goal quite yet....I have met a lot of fitness and appearance goals and I have met myself metaphorically and I really like this new friend.

    You're right that my stepmother's situation has changed. It really is amazing what has happened in the last 10 days and what her functional level is now. I finally went to see her yesterday in the nursing home. They discourage unassisted ambulation due to fall concerns, she can no longer feed herself and her swallow is delayed so they need to tweak her diet. She doesn't speak louder than a whisper. She did answer yes/no questions like are you hungry, do you want to go for a walk. All were no answers so which makes me wonder about comprehension. She had life in her eyes though and I haven't seen that for a few days.

    I'm going to get Dad tomorrow morning and bring him over here. He has an appointment at the Clinic tomorrow and several appointments at the Clinic on Tuesday so he'll stay overnight. We have had someone with him every day since my stepmother went into a facility. Not 24/7 after the first two days but some time every day.

    My diet has really been suffering. Not so much calorie wise since my weight isn't changing (apparently I have learned a few things on Spark People) but I eat in restaurants too much including fast food and those places had become very rare for me. So...not a lot of whole foods. Skipped meals sometimes too. My energy level seems to have been affected but I force myself to get those fitness minutes.

    Well, John deleted Word and Excel last night. Accidentally but that just means another problem to be handled today. I told the dogs to just give me 10 minutes to rest this morning and immediately one of them asked to go out. Really? I need a vacation.

    Thanks for stopping by my painting blog. You are right that the push to do is usually the right thing to do. I hadn't enjoyed the first time I did one of these evenings at the university as much as I enjoyed this recent evening. I just think the participants were much more outgoing and I needed a night in which the conversation made sense.

    It appears that we have a place to take my stepmother. My dad and stepsister will go to sign papers on Monday. I am definitely hoping all goes well. In a month's time we have progressed from needing one person 24/7 to needing two people. It has been good bonding time for the siblings but I know John has had a tough time with my being gone so much. The dogs too. Tony probably finds it hard too or at least I intend to believe that.

    Erik and I found the Magnum Bars made with Belgian chocolate. We found them in Belgium in 2014, had some in Austria that same trip and when we came home Erik found them in the grocery store here in Buford, GA-amazing! The small ones are reasonable in calories, but they don't have all the flavors...Double Raspberry is my favorite, and some special dark chocolate one I can't name because our store is not carrying lately. The minis come in double caramel or a box of three flavors including one with white chocolate-which I dislike intensely. Needless to say we really don't need to be having those around. emoticon emoticon

    Thanks for stopping by my blog. I just returned from another overnight. Things weren't too bad though my stepmother didn't speak or look at me from about 8:00 this morning till I left at noon. I left dinner in the crockpot plus a dessert appropriate for the diabetics there so at least I feel like I made myself useful.

    It's good to be home. Everyone except Tony is always happy to see me. Tony probably misses me too as he does like having us around to do his bidding but he's way too cool to show it. LOL I won't be staying now until Thursday because of one type of appointment or another. Now, I best get the dogs out for their walk. Thank heavens it isn't as hot as it was!!
