I have had an unhealthy relationship with food my entire life. I've always ate too big of portions and have stuffed myself for every single meal. I thought the purpose of eating was to make me feel good and happy. All kinds of problems arise from this, including turning to food when I felt less, a void, sad, bored, not content.

I stayed a "normal" weight until I graduated from highschool. At that point I started gaining. I joined a gym and exercised like a crazy person and lost all my extra weight but still had an unhealthy eating relationship. I just ate way too much, all the time.

I was 117 lbs when I got married at 25 yrs old. I am 5' 2" tall with a small frame, so this is my ideal weight. However, I started putting on weight from day one of marriage and got up to 146 lbs. Got pregnant, ballooned up to 196 lbs. Lost the weight and went down to 140 lbs for a second then started gaining again. when I got pregnant with my 2nd child, I weighed 162 lbs. Ballooned up to 211 lbs. Lived like that for a year and lost some weight and hovered around 185 lbs. Was super unhealthy, super unhappy and decided to start exercising and modifying my eating habits.

I started doing dvds and jogging and walking. It took a year but I got down to 138 lbs. Then I got pregnant with my 3rd child. Ballooned up to 206 lbs in 2009. After I recovered from my c-section, I started running and I haven't stopped since. I also have faced my food addiction head on and am living one day at a time and am fighting daily to have a healthy relationship with food. A relationship where food doesn't dictate my emotions or aid me in feeling good or in control. Food is fuel for my body, that I enjoy but it is not an answer to my problems and it is not something I can turn to for comfort. I am eating healthy sized portions of good food. It has made all the difference.

I run regularly, eat good food, in healthy portions, I tone and I feel so great. I am fluctuating between 120-122 lbs and I'm okay with that. I love feeling this great and being this healthy. One day at a time.

Ultimate goals:
1. Want to be 120 by February 2011. I met this goal in March 2011!!!

2. Beat my previous time in Half Marathon May 2011 by 13 minutes.

2. Complete full marathon October 2011.


My Program:
I'm running 5x weekly. Getting the mileage in and building up endurance.

Toning exercises.

Being mindful of my portions when eating.

I'm changing my relationship with food and how I let it control me. A lifetime of bad habits are being shed and the ups and downs of this journey are stretching me. I'm 35 and finally breaking free from strongholds in my life. Food and otherwise.

    Good luck on your marathon! SUPER exciting!!

    As far as the tri's.....before I gained my weight in college I did tris as a child and growing up so when I started back doing them in 09 it was hard but I was familiar with the training needed and how the race would go.

    They are by far my favorite thing to do!!!! I have several HM's planned for the year and one Full but to be honest, I wish I could do tris all day! I love to bike and swim more than running.

    Keep in touch and let me know how your training goes! My full is in Dec. What training program will you be using?

    IT Band problems! And the reason, it appears, is that I have one leg shorter than the other. Now that I have a possible cause, and can correct it, I'm hopeful that I can resume training without the pain.

    I ran the Fargo (ND) Half Marathon in May. I would run the same race this May, if I choose to run.
    I'm really trying to work on my strength training so I have cut back on my mileage. Don't know if I can commit to all those training miles and keep up with the ST.
