I have always been overweight throughout my life. I could never look at myself in the mirror or see any beauty. I never got compliments when I was at my heaviest of 346 pounds. No one ever noticed me. One day at a family function a photographer had come by to take pictures of my sisters and me. When we got the photo back I was horrified at what I had seen. All my sisters were smaller then me and looking good. I felt like I was as big as a house. That picture and many other factors started the launch of me losing weight. I could not do it on my own because of past failures. I had to take a drastic measure and go for Gastric Bypass surgery. I was what in the medical profession considered morbidly obesse. I hate that label but it is what it is. I was on 3 blood pressure medication and borderline diabetic. My dad passed away from heart desease and my mom has diabetese. I was headed down that road. I went for the suregery and knew I was going to have a long road ahead of me. Through diet, exercise and the new tool (smaller stomach) I was able to lose 160 lbs so far. I still have some ways to go but am a lot healthier and happier with the results. I know this is a life long committment and I have to work at it as everyone else does. This is why I am here on SPARKPEOPLE. I dont ever want to go back to the way I was and support is a big thing in my life. I want to continue on to the road of success and live a healthy active life.
UPDATE: As of 10/22/10 I have surpassed my weight loss goal. I have lost more then what I have expected to and then some. I feel great and will continue on the road to success. I want to also continue to motivate others like myself and others who are trying to lose weight. Whether your going for weight loss surgery or doing it on your own you have come to the right place (Spark People). Don't give up we are all in the same boat, trying and thriving for the same thing, a healthier life.

My Goals:
My new goals are to lose 10 pounds by my birthday 2/17 (I know I can), get 8 hours of sleep a night, start running, and keep myself motivated to being healthier and never to going back to the way I use to be (picture to the left).

My Program:
I am now working out on my own with help from exercise on Spark People, my Elliptical Trainer, Bowflex, Norditrack, Swimming and of course walking. I also like using resistance bands, stability balls, free weights and am now researching Chi Running (thanks to Garden Chick).

Personal Information:
I am from Massachusetts. I work with people mental and physical disabilities. I love helping out people whenever I can. I believe people should help out whenever possible. I give random acts of kindness making people feel like someone out there still cares.

Other Information:
Going for gastric bypass surgery was by no means an easy way out. It is a lot of work and continues to be. Those who are thinking it is easy think again. It is just a tool with a life time commitment to eating right, exercising and making a life time of promises not to resort back to the old ways.
