On the road to good health

The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. It will be a fun ride!

Like countless others, I have struggled with my weight for decades. Dealing with it seemed like something I can get to eventually. Oh I have been on diets galore. I dieted to lose weight. Sure I would drop several pounds and feel good. Inevitably I always put the weight back on and then some.

But this time things are different. It is about getting the wake up call. Yupper... ...

Yupper... the call came alright. Was I surprised? Heck no. Was it the hardest call ever? Heck yes! So now I am dealing with what I should have dealt with years ago. I will not dwell on the past. I am here and living in the present. I have a lot of weight to lose. My sights are on the first 50! More importantly, my sights are on changing my life for good! Virtuous cycles all the way!

My Goals:
My goal is to eat to live. Healthy living and healthy eating habits are my main concern after years and years of doing the opposite. In practical terms, my goals are:
1. Drink 8 glasses of water a day
2. Maintain weight loss of 1 to 2 lbs/week
3. Eat 5 times/per day focusing on low carb and high fiber choices
4. Get strength training in 3 times/week, get about 30 minutes of cardio EVERYDAY

I hope to run a 5K someday. Right now it is a distant dream.

My Program:
My program is all about long term, sustainable healthy eating based on good, healthful habits. I am arming myself with knowledge and information. I am tracking everything I eat and tracking my fitness using Sparkpeople recommendations.

Personal Information:
I live in Southwestern Connecticut with my husband of 12 years and our 2 sons. I work for a large consumer products company and I love what I do.

Other Information:
I live my life by a very simple motto... if God brings you to it, He will bring your through it. You may not be able to change the wind but you can always adjust your sails. I try to make the best out of any situation. My joy and energy comes from my family, from my friends, and my work. I enjoy New York Yankees baseball, cheering hard for my children at their baseball games. I enjoy entertaining, reading and Sparkpeople. I love the support I get from my Spark Friends.

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. ~ World Health Organization

It seems like many of us face a continual battle to stay positive when little progress is apparent. We just have to keep in mind that we our efforts will result in a healthier life. We need to focus on how we are feeling and the energy we have to accomplish daily life tasks. Im working hard to concentrate on my health rather than just on the number on the scale; to concentrate on non-scale victories to help me stay positive every day.

"Just because we are knocked down does not mean that we are out.
We still have breath in our lungs and tears flowing down - all signs that we are alive!
Take a deep breath and be reminded that often our biggest struggles are stepping stones to our greatest victories."
-Rae Smith

Happy Earth Day! Monday, April 22nd is Earth Day a day to be in wonder of this wonderful world we live in. There's so many things that you can do to honor Earth Day this month. Take some time to think about how you recycle or reuse things around your home. Maybe pick up a new habit clean habit to honor Earth Day. *~ Paula *~

BEAUTIFUL WOMAN AWARD"

Hi! Just a shout out to congratulate you!

You are the recipient of the Beautiful Woman Award!!

"Once you've been given this award, you have to paste it on the page of 8 women who deserve it. If you receive more than 3, you know you're really beautiful! If you break the chain, nothing will happen, but it's always good to know someone thinks you're beautiful inside and out!"

Again, Congratulations Beautiful!

Thanks for spreading a little beauty, love, friendship, and support into my life!

“The whole idea of motivation is a trap. Forget motivation. Just do it. Exercise, lose weight, test your blood sugar, or whatever. Do it without motivation. And then, guess what? After you start doing the thing, that's when the motivation comes and makes it easy for you to keep on doing it.”
