It's been a while since I was last on Spark and I've really let myself and my weight get out of a control. It took a while, but over the last few years I have managed to gain back everything I lost. My old, larger clothes fit once again and are even beginning to get tight. I have body and joint aches. I have lost my flexability and my willpower. So, before things get worse, its time for a new start, it's time to regain control and find the thinner me I seemed to have lost.
August 2010, I started my journey with Sparkpeople. I was determined and motivated to lose weight and I did... I lost 50lbs and loved the way I looked and felt. Now, 5 years later, I am back where I started. I have gained back all of the weight I lost and found a few pounds more. I've lost my motivation and I don't like the way I look or feel. The reflection in the mirror is not how I see myself, my joints hurt, my body lacks flexibility, and I'm always tired. I'm 51 years old and still to young to feel this way for the rest of my life. It's time to make a change....
After a summer of travelling, Paris, California twice, Tennessee, Georgia, Indiana, and 3 Disney Parks in different cities and countries, we were exhausted and I had overindulged. My weight had climbed but how could it not when I ate and drank at some of the most amazing places in Europe and throughout the US. I enjoyed myself all the while knowing that when I eventually got home and stepped on the scale I would not be happy with the number that would be staring back at me. AND...I was right! The scale revealed a weight gain of 30 pounds. Is that really possibly? I am proof, yes it is.
So here we go again, I have rejoined the Sparkpeople 5% Challenge, to get myself back on track and regain control of my weight loss efforts.
I managed to keep off the 50 pounds for a full year! WooHoo!
HOWEVER, I started slipping in July 2012 and I have now gained back 1/2 of what I lost. When I am not active in the BLC I stop counting calories and tracking my food. Exercise becomes almost nonexistent. I am a night owl and while up late I find myself mindlessly munching while watching TV. Of course, with bad habits comes consequences, and the numbers on the scale have started to rise. So, it's time to take action! This year is the big 5-0 and it would be nice to be fit and trim at 50!
One Day at a Time...
It seems that for most of my life I have had a constant battle to lose weight. Over the years, I have tried hundreds of times to diet or to make a "lifestyle change" however, I would only semi commit myself to weight loss. I say semi because everything else in my life took priority. If I didn't have enough on my plate to keep me busy, I would take on additional commitments to avoid losing weight. Not any more!
It's time for me! Time for me to put myself first. So, in August of 2010 I started back on SparkPeople.
I weighed and tracked my foods daily and tracked my exercise as well. I joined several teams and challenges. For me the challenge teams are the best - working as a team definitely helps to keep me motivated.
By the end of April of 2011, almost 9 months into my journey I had lost a total of 50 pounds and was wearing a size 12. In all my weight loss efforts over the years I have never stayed committed this long or lost this much weight. The amazing part...this time it didn't feel like work.

My Fall 5% Challenge Exercise Commitment
3-5 times a week
Cardio: Walking 5-7 days a week and bring the dogs with me occasionally they need exercise too!
Cardio: Exercise Bike (for those rainy days) try to incorporate biking 2-3 times a week even if its just for 10 mins.
Previous 5% Goals set a few years ago:
1. What do you want to change? Most of all my clothing size. I would love to be a size 8-10 and no longer shop in the plus sizes.
2. How do you want to look? confident, amazing, sexy...
3. How do you want to feel? Energetic, I want to keep up with my daughters and not be left behind huffing and puffing.
4. What things will you be able to do in the future with a slimmer healthier body? Anything I want to! And then some!
To walk, swim or bike 4-5 times a week for at least 30 minutes.
