I will not be a fat pigeon in winter...

I am a grandmother and artist living in the Marquette, Michigan area.

I started my weight loss journey in November of 2008 and found Sparkpeople.com in late January. When I started in November I was 198 lbs. when I stepped on the scale--I was devestated.

As a photographer I had also taken a photo of fat pigeons on a wire trying to puff out and stay warm and I then vowed I would not be a fat pigeon in winter. Today I stepped on the scale at 169.8.

Injury and illness has kept me from many of my fitness goals--but I can keep one thing on track in a big way--the fuel that I put in my body can be healthy. My nutitrition tracker is my best tool here at Spark.

Thanks for the goodie!

We had a great time. Lots of swimming, hiking and birding. So sorry we missed you this year though. When I get up there, it seems like it's all about the kids and keeping things together (since I'm the only parent most of the time) and I lose track of other things.

I got sick upon coming home. Got the blahs!

I'm not sure you are aware, but your name is in Kate Crowley and Mike Link's book called Going Full Circle. Here is the paragraph:

"Walking out of Marquette, we followed a paved path to the Michigan Visitor Center on M-28. A woman was walking toward us. At first she stared and then asked what had become a pleasantly familiar question, which turned into the theme for the morning: "Are you the couple walking around the lake?"

She was Kim Nixon, one of our Facebook fans, another affirmation of the power of social networking. Our Facebook page, which started with people living around the lake, eventually expanded to include people around the world."

What a difficult job you have! You are a courageous person and compassionate. I'm glad that people have you in their midst as they pass away. I'm sorry it's so hard on you!
