Living For Me!

I am 42 years old, married and a mom of 3 children. I work full time at a private Christian school.

February '08 was when I decided I needed to make some drastic changes to my lifestyle. At 229 lbs. I knew I wasn't really healthy. My daughter brought home a "Jump Rope for Heart" paper from school. I read the information provided from the American Heart Association. It really made me look good and hard at myself.

My mother has heart disease, my dad is a diabetic. I see them struggle every day with the effect of that. I knewI didn't want to head down that road too.

I have had my ups and downs on my journey trying to be and stay healthy! When I am UP I am flying high but when I am DOWN, I couldn't get much lower. I am constently working on finding the balance so I get off the teeter taughter!

I knew when I started this process it was a lifestyle change and is something I would have to work at for a lifetime. After going up and down for the last 4 years, I am here to say it is true! You have to work at it everyday.

I am glad to have found great support here on SparkPeople and appreciate all the great advise and wisdom I gain from those on here who are working through the lifelong process with me.

I struggle daily to gain self-control over food and realize I am worth all the work that it will take to reach and stay at my goal so I can live a long life for me and my family!

Slow and steady wins the race!

My Goals:
Start Weight: 229
End Goal: Low 140's

The lowest weight I reached on my journey was 140 lbs. in June of 2011. I am working to get back to that and maintain between 140 - 150 lbs!

To get my heart, soul, and mind working together to stay healthy no matter what obsticles are put in my path!

To put myself first in my choices and remember that I am the only one who can truly take care of me!

My Program:
I have learned that I need to track my food and follow my SP food range and using the food pyramid.

I include mostly all whole grain, natural, low fat and fresh products. I try not to eat many processed foods and have learned how to make better choices when dining out.

I fit in exercise when I can because I burn out if I make it a job to exercise. I have learned to make it more fun and fit it in as much as I can.

I play with my kids, jump rope, swim, bike, run, use on demand exercise TV and SparkPeople videos.

I am not so good with strength training but do own a Total Gym,, resistance bands, and enjoy the exercises on SparkPeople.

Personal Information:
I have a wonderful sister who is a fitness instructor at our local YMCA. She gives me lots of support and advise which I take to heart! I would not be where I am today without her.

I am married, have 3 wonderful children and live in Central New York.

Thanks for all of your nice comments! I know my strength is coming from God alone because yesterday I could have eaten any junk food in sight about worrying how I was going to get my house clean & spotless. Thankfully that did not happen!
Sorry that you are having a hard time, but I am glad that you have admitted to being honest with yourself. I know that you know this but once you do get back on track you always seem to lose it quick. (I'm kinda jealous that I can't lose it as quick as you!)
Are you sure that you have gained because I can't tell?
It seems like you have been getting your exercise with bike riding, so you would just need to work on the food part. If you wanted some other exercise- there is always Aqua Zumba on Friday with me!:) It was a lot of fun (even if I could not get all the moves right!) and I could really feel it in my arms and upper body.
If you want to talk or get your frustrations out - you know where to find me. You have been an inspiration to me, so I want to help you in return!
