Fit Forever

Hi! I am a 37 year old sahm to two wonderful kids, ages 7 and 10. My dh and I have been married for 16 years and a few years ago decided it was time to get fit. We began running and I've now finished 4 half-marathons as well as various smaller races. I've also just finished my first marathon and am excitedly planning the next one. Hopefully in November I will be a multiple marathoner. I Would love to lose 10 more lbs but am mostly just looking to stay motivated, healthy and active.

I know what you mean. Apparently I was the most severe case my podiatrist had had ever seen. Another podiatrist said it could be detrimental to my feet in the future, but I think I would prefer to deal with a different type of surgery in the future than have my tendons messed with again.

Its been awhile! I went through with both surgeries, and both failed. I still toe-walk, and now I have arthritis in my feet and ankles to match. Hope this news isn't discouraging.. My opinion is to leave well enough alone! :)

So I never really use this site anymore, but I wanted to let you know that I go in for my first of two tendon lengthening surgeries tomorrow! I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the information! I was looking at those braces earlier today, and I was really interested in them. The website I looked at said that they work, but it's also important to get physical therapy to fix the underlying problem (which can range from a bad lower back to weak ankles). I was going to schedule a doctor's appointment, but after talking to my husband about it, he was worried that bringing it to a doctor's attention at this point in time would be bad timing for my career (I'm going back to train for a HUGE promotion at the end of the year, and since our healthcare is military based, they could easily tell me I'm not longer eligible for said promotion). I think I'll order one of the braces this weekend anyway, and skip out on physical therapy until after my training.
Hope your daughter will start stretching again. Toe walking isn't the biggest deal in the world, but it would certainly be pretty cool to overcome it.
