Where I was. Not bad for 42.

Nope, not bad at all.

Last May, I'm smiling on the outside, but crying on the inside!

My story:

I have been gaining weight by about 5 or 6 pounds per year for the last 10 years. Used to hover around 200 pounds feeling and looking pretty buff.

Blew a hamstring around that time throwing a great kick to my opponents head in Tae Kwon Do and stopped all my cardio; running, biking and Tae Kwon Do. Never restarted any of the three.

As the pounds came on, I started working out with less intensity and less frequency. I did work out hard prior to my parents 50th Anniversary and the result is seen in the pictures in my profile. That is me at about 225 and pretty solid. First 2 pics were of me at 42 years old. Need to get back there this year and then some. The last pic is of me this past summer and I look no better now.

I have a horrible family history medically speaking. High colesterol, high BP, Type II Diabetes, and I am on meds for all three now. Want to get off of them all and live a long healthy life with family and friends.

This past Jan 1 I had reversed the trend of gaining weight every year and actually turned the tables. I was 261.8 on Jan 1, 2009. But this Jan 1 (2010) I was 246.

My mom just passed away Jan 18th during open heart surgery. Her third time under the knife. After her death I gained back all of the weight I had lost last year. Guess I have been in kind of a funk. Drinking too much, eating too much. She and my dad had lived with us for the past 14 years and she was a big part of our daily lives.

Dad is still with us, but it has been a challenge watching him walk through the process of living without her, while trying to deal with it ourselves. Things are getting better though. Time heals...etc.

When I stood on the scale and saw 261.8 again about three weeks ago, I said enough is enough. Time to take control of my life so I can exemplify the very principles I talk to my clients about.

We miss mom, but she has motivated me to stop making excuses and start making progress.

Are you with me?
