A Healthier Me

Update to my page -- Sorry to say my mother, who lived with my husband and I for 9 years after her stroke, passed away on July 15th. I have comforted myself with comfort food for two months now and it's time to get back on track!! I'm back and I'm not ashamed to admit, I need help from any of my old friends who I feel like I abandoned. I wouldn't blame you if you don't want anything to do with me... but I will help you, if you help me!!

Hi!

I started this program in August 2011 at 191 pounds. I was also on blood pressure medicine and Metformin (1000 mg. daily) for my type II diabetes. I wanted to lose weight, not only just to look better, but also to feel better and to help lower my blood pressure and my diabetes numbers (my A1c). I have accomplished that with the help of SparkPeople and my Spark Friends. My diabetes is better and my doctor recently took me off my Metformin, as a test to see how I do without it. (So far, so good! )My blood pressure is so much better, I'm totally off the two pills a day I was taking for it! And the best part is, I'm having fun and I've made some great new friends in the process!

I've been retired from a public library for over 6 years now and take care of my 88 year-old mother who has lived with my husband and I since her stroke in 2005. SparkPeople also has been my lifeline to the outside world, since I only get "out" two days a week, when my mother goes to Adult Day Care for Seniors.

With SparkPeople, I've found a "way of life" diet! And a healthy -- physically and mentally -- way of life as a bonus! Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll be around here for quite a while!

Thank you SparkPeople!

My Goals:
My goals are to lose weight to help with my diabetes and arthritis. I'd also like to let the "skinny girl" inside me back out! :)

My Program:
I've worked my way up to 45 minutes a day on my stationary bike and lifting free weights every other day. I've also discovered the joys of Wii boxing! I need help with my upper arms, so I'm hoping the jabs will help!

Motivator of the day? Clearly they are chosen by throwing darts, no other criteria needed!
I am hanging in there, can't ask more than that I guess.
Love ya!

Thanks for checking in. If all goes well at the doctor, we are heading to Gatlinburg for the weekend after his appointment. It's suppose to be 50's on Saturday and 70 on Sunday. Coming home might be bad though huh? I am hoping they are wrong. Positive thinking. I told Kel if it is bad when she gets up Sunday, call and we will just stay another day haha I'm concerned about Terry. He is still having chest pains and not feeling well. I hope we get some answers.

It has been a week. We ended up taking Winston back to the shelter Tuesday evening. He had such a sweet side to him, but there was a side that was so destructive. We have our third blind in the bedroom up because he literally chewed the other ones to pieces. I bought toys on top of toys but he had an attention span of about 2 minutes. When he went to asleep at night he slept all night. Then around 5:00 it started and it was No Winston, Hurt the baby Winston, Quit Winston. Ugh! Then Tuesday morning I got up and when I went downstairs, he had chewed the handle of my Sweetgrass basket from Charleston, SC all the way in half. But that didn't totally tip me over. I came to the computer room to check my emails. He came in and went phsyco. You know how kittens runs sideways when they act crazy. Multiply that by 100. He was running sideways, all puffed up. He would jump from furniture to furniture, then he would claw and bite my throw blanket on the bed. If I tried to catch him, he would dart under the bed. I got him out of the room and shut the door. When I let him back in, he started again. After the third time, I just sat in the floor and cried and cried. I finally called and they said I could bring him back. I hated it so bad. But we went to a health fair last Saturday and my blood pressure was high. I always run low, so I know with the stress of Terry and getting no rest with Winston, it was catching up. He was a rescue kitten that had to be bottle fed. I don't know if there is just something up with him or what. The last two days I have spent bringing back out things I had to put up so he wouldn't destroy it. I have never had to do that with any of my other animals. So anyway, that is the reason Gatlinburg is looking more and more like a good idea. Hopefully we make it back Sunday before the storm hits.

How is Don doing? Better I hope. I will check back next week and let you know what the doctor says.

I changed my ticker back to a goal weight, the six pounds was deceiving. I have fell off the wagon and it ran right over me. I started my journey here on SP at 183 and a couple of years ago was down to 156/157. I was 178 this morning. So I am crawling back up on the wagon to move forward. A couple of Sparkfriends told me about a motivation coach who just plan tells it like it is. You have to sign up for his ebook and 21 day video plan, but they were doing it so I did yesterday. It must have helped already, I did pretty good today. If you are interested in checking it out, it's free.

For the videos, go to www.fatlosers.com and for the free ebook download, go to www.fatloser.com. The one has an s on the end and the other don't. The guys name is Steve Siebold if you want to search him out. I watched an interview of him before I signed up.
