A Healthier Me

Update to my page -- I've been away from SparkPeople for way too long. I even forget how to track things and make changes on my SparkPage. I guess you could say the highlight of my year was the major back surgery I had in April. Afterwards, I wasn't allowed to do ANYTHING for almost 4months, not even bending over when I dropped something. Between that and all the comfort foods I treated myself to, I found myself up to 189 lbs, by September. I was then given the go ahead to have physical therapy ...
I was then given the go ahead to have physical therapy to learn exercises for strengthening my core and to ride my stationary recumbent bike. I'm proud to say I've lost 24 lbs. back as of today, so I weigh 165.1 -- almost the same as when I last was on SP. I'm back and I'm not ashamed to admit, I need help from any of my old friends who I feel like I abandoned. I wouldn't blame you if you don't want anything to do with me... but I will help you, if you help me!!

Hi!

I started this program in August 2011 at 191 pounds. I was also on blood pressure medicine and Metformin (1000 mg. daily) for my type II diabetes. I wanted to lose weight, not only just to look better, but also to feel better and to help lower my blood pressure and my diabetes numbers (my A1c). I have accomplished that with the help of SparkPeople and my Spark Friends. My diabetes is better and my doctor recently took me off my Metformin, as a test to see how I do without it. (So far, so good! )My blood pressure is so much better, I'm totally off the two pills a day I was taking for it! And the best part is, I'm having fun and I've made some great new friends in the process!

I've been retired from a public library for over 6 years now and take care of my 88 year-old mother who has lived with my husband and I since her stroke in 2005. SparkPeople also has been my lifeline to the outside world, since I only get "out" two days a week, when my mother goes to Adult Day Care for Seniors.

With SparkPeople, I've found a "way of life" diet! And a healthy -- physically and mentally -- way of life as a bonus! Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll be around here for quite a while!

Thank you SparkPeople!

My Goals:
My goals are to lose weight to help with my diabetes and arthritis. I'd also like to let the "skinny girl" inside me back out! :)

My Program:
I've worked my way up to 45 minutes a day on my stationary bike and lifting free weights every other day. I've also discovered the joys of Wii boxing! I need help with my upper arms, so I'm hoping the jabs will help!

Sounds like our pups could have a dinner date as Lily is now on the same dog food. She has had this surgery once before, I hate that she has to go through it again. I actually had to wait 2 weeks to get the surgery done because my employer will not allow time off FOR ANY REASON unless you give 2 weeks notice. If you call out sick, even with a doctor's note it still counts against you and goes on your annual review. The vet said the two week wait is ok because Lily is on anti-biotics for the next 2 weeks.
What really aggravates me is the conflicting info given from different vets. The previous vet said to give Lily green beans and little pieces of apple to supplement her diet with low calorie treats, this vet says the minerals in fruits and veggies has lead in part to Lily having stones again. Apparently some dogs cannot process mineral well.
I am glad Bear is doing well, I hope his next surgery is not complicated and he comes back better than ever.
Hugs,
B
