A Healthier Me

Update to my page -- Sorry to say my mother, who lived with my husband and I for 9 years after her stroke, passed away on July 15th. I have comforted myself with comfort food for two months now and it's time to get back on track!! I'm back and I'm not ashamed to admit, I need help from any of my old friends who I feel like I abandoned. I wouldn't blame you if you don't want anything to do with me... but I will help you, if you help me!!

Hi!

I started this program in August 2011 at 191 pounds. I was also on blood pressure medicine and Metformin (1000 mg. daily) for my type II diabetes. I wanted to lose weight, not only just to look better, but also to feel better and to help lower my blood pressure and my diabetes numbers (my A1c). I have accomplished that with the help of SparkPeople and my Spark Friends. My diabetes is better and my doctor recently took me off my Metformin, as a test to see how I do without it. (So far, so good! )My blood pressure is so much better, I'm totally off the two pills a day I was taking for it! And the best part is, I'm having fun and I've made some great new friends in the process!

I've been retired from a public library for over 6 years now and take care of my 88 year-old mother who has lived with my husband and I since her stroke in 2005. SparkPeople also has been my lifeline to the outside world, since I only get "out" two days a week, when my mother goes to Adult Day Care for Seniors.

With SparkPeople, I've found a "way of life" diet! And a healthy -- physically and mentally -- way of life as a bonus! Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll be around here for quite a while!

My Goals:
My goals are to lose weight to help with my diabetes and arthritis. I'd also like to let the "skinny girl" inside me back out! :)

My Program:
I've worked my way up to 45 minutes a day on my stationary bike and lifting free weights every other day. I've also discovered the joys of Wii boxing! I need help with my upper arms, so I'm hoping the jabs will help!

PT sounds like a Great Start. When I had my lower back pain I went to PT and they did show me some great stretches and workouts to help with the pain.

Hi Marsha, I do remember you! I'm so sorry to learn of your mother's passing and also your husband's father. Such a sad time the summer would have been for you and hubby!

Good to see you again and maybe now you'll be okay and able to get back on track. I know you'll get those unwanted pounds off!

I hope you are doing great! I am actually doing quite fab. I have been working out an average of 4-5 times a week, and improving my health by doing so. Woo hoo! It is funny how that works, isn't it?
