There are a lot of Jessica's in our generation, so I'm not suprised, my name is SO common!

I don't know if you need to wait until your kids are in school to go back to school yourself... That really depends on your situation, your support system, etc.. If you have people that can help you, or if you can afford day-care it will be easier. It also depends on what school you go to. I went to a local community college nursing program, and it was tough, but I know that my school had daycare available at low rates for students.

Unfortunately Doctors get a bad rep everywhere. There are always some that are difficult to work with, arrogant, or some are just mean. When I first started in nursing, I was scared to call the doctors most of the time. But eventually, as I gained confidence in myself and my nursing abilities, I grew a little more of a backbone. Most of the Doc's where I work are actually pretty nice. There are only a couple I've had problems with.

I actually like working at the VA for the most part. It has it's problems, especially in the administrative/policy producing standpoint... but otherwise I love working with the vets, I have learned so much from them and most are wonderful people!

I'm sorry to hear your father passed away. That's gotta be tough. I'm not sure it's possible to PROVE that an illness was caused by agent orange. If he was in Vietnam during the time that they were using agent orange, I think they say the time was between 1962 and 1975, then it's very likely. In fact, I think anyone who was in country during time of possible exposure automatically has access to healthcare and disability benefits through the VA for any illness related to Unfortunately, knowing if agent orange was definately the culprit doesn't change the outcome. Im sorry for your loss.

Nice to meet you Crystal! My name is Jessica, although I know it says that on my page somewhere! I'm currently about 196.8 so we're around the same weight right now! My highest weight was 225lbs, yikes! I'd also like to be down to about 150 or less eventually. I'm about 5'7 1/2" so 150 would be within my healthy weight range, I haven't weighed that since sophmore year of high school! That's when I met my (now) husband too. Dang men making us gain weight! Lol.

I think you can do anything if you really want to do it! I know going to nursing school would have been a lot tougher for me if I already had kids. I know it's possible though because there were a lot more people in my class that had family's already then those of us that didn't. I won't lie though, nursing is a tough field. It's in no way an easy job, most of the time, but it can also be very rewarding. I work at the VA, so no babies available to work with there. It's mostly the older population of Vietnam, Korea, desert storm or even some WWII vets, but we also occasionally get some more current Iraq or Afghanistan conflict veterans. I did a rotation in labor and delivery and neo natal care in school... I thought I would like working with the babies more, but I actually didn't, It turned out I enjoyed working in labor and delivery more... lol, but that's the cool thing about nursing is that there are so many different areas to work in.

Anyway, I don't think my life is anything to be jelous of, lol. I've had a lot of trials trying to adapt to the life of a nurse. At times, it has felt like my life is entirely my job, and I've had trouble not taking my stress home with me (not a good thing). It's also EXTREMELY hard to lose weight as a nurse. Nurses are often some of the worst at losing weight, they tell others what is healthy and not healthy, but we rarely practice what we preach. I work 12 hour night shifts, and the break room is always littered with GOODIES! Cookies, cakes, pies, ice cream, cupcakes, candy... PIZZA, you name it, I've had to try to NOT eat it at work! I think it's how they try to stay awake all night, by EATING. I'm getting better at ignoring all the food, but it's hard sometimes.

Anyway, if that's really what you want to do with your life, then I hope I'm not detering you.. there are so many options for what you can do with a Nursing degree, so you don't have to end up in my situation necessarily. I don't think there are many jobs that don't have some of the same issues, so don't let me put you off... I'm just trying to say that nursing is not always so glamorous... although you can make pretty good money compared to the amount of education you need to get an RN (2 years degree but takes most a little longer for Pre-requisites and such) and now I've been BLABING too long, lol. TTYL!
