I have a dream. It involves flyfishing, requires a loss of 87 pounds, a big increase in fitness, learning Spanish and a roundtrip airfare to Patagonia.

The things I enjoy are flyfishing, reading, walking in the woods (too out of shape now) and writing. I'm 62 yo and have some aches, pains and injuries that have accumulated over the years.

I'm a type 2 diabetic and in less than a month on Spark People I have reduced my medication and hope to be off of it completely by the end of the year.

It has occurred to me of late that I am running out of time to make that trip I have wanted for 15 years to the pristine fishing waters of Patagonia. I am already overweight and out of shape so I am here to fix that so I will be able to hike to the best fishing spots. Of course I want to go to the west side where getting around will take more muscle.

Your encouragement will be appreciated.

Personal Information:
I'm 62 yo and live in Washington state with my DH of 32 yrs.
Also in residence at our house are Koko (a 40 yo Amazon parrot) and Jasper (an 11 mo old golden retriever.

I have 2 grown children, 4 grand children and 1 great-grand child.

Other Information:
I lost 80 pounds a few years ago when I first was diagnosed with diabetes, dropping from 287 to 207. Now 30 of those pounds have sneaked back on so I need to lose them again and 57 more to reach my goal of 150 by the end of the year.

    Thanks so much for stopping by and for your comment on my blog. My BMI is currently 24.9, so that's why I'm still thinking I could lose a few pounds. But I'm pretty happy with my progress and am in no rush to lose more.

    As for stretch marks, I don't think the creams would help much since the stretch marks are about 20 years old (Mederma's website says their cream won't do much for older stretch marks). But I am trying to keep my skin well hydrated/moisturized, and making sure to get plenty of vitamin E. Do you have any other tips?

    hey, thanks for the comment on my blog! i will have to try eating less salt as well. you should try making your own popcorn at home on the stove with olive oil. so easy and tastier than microwave or movie theatre. and you can put as little salt on it as you want. emoticon

    It is great to hear about your reduction in medication. My husband was diagnosed last year with type 2 so we have really been making an effort as of late to control it. He wasn't ready before now but since I have been making an effort to eat healthier and exercise, he has too. It is good to hear success stories. You are well on your way to Patagonia!
