Hi all, My name is Cara and I am 27 years old. I am very happily married to a stick man (seriously he's 6'6 190), lol, and have to wonderful children!

I have been over weight my whole life. Sometimes more so then others. My highest weight was 289 lbs. That was in Feb of 2009. I weighed more than I did at the end of my 2nd pregnancy. 15lbs more to be exact. My ankles hurt, my feet hurt my knees hurt.... AND I WAS ONLY IN MY 20'S!!! I felt like a old woman, I couldn't walk around the grocery store without almost limping by then time I got home. I would get out of breath just walking to the mailbox. I spent my night laying on the couch watching TV. I remember watching the Biggest Loser with a plate full of fried chicken on my lap! Lol! And my bedroom life with my husband was not only boring, but almost non existent. I mean, there's not much you can do at 289 lbs to bring fun back into the bedroom.
I finally got tired of it. I didn't want my 1 year old to know me as the fat mommy that my 8 yr old knew me as. I wanted my child to be proud of me and not get teased in school because her mommy was fat. I didn't want the weird looks that people gave me and my husband cause of our extreme weight difference. Most of all I didn't want to reach that 300 mark, cause I knew if I did, I would lose all hope. I want to be there for my kids for the rest of there lives.

I started my dieting on 2/16/09. I threw away all that Valentines day candy,and said no more! I wasn't starting a diet, but a new lifestyle! Every morning I drink a slim fast (wal-mart brand is fine) and eat a piece of fruit (preferably a banana or apple). Then for the rest of the day I watch my calorie intake. I can't tell you I am only eating X number of calories a day, cause I'm not keeping up with it like that. I just try to keep each meal at a minimum of 400-600 calories when eat lunch and dinner (sometimes less, if I know I am going out to eat at a sit down restaurant, I'll keep lunch a little lower so I can be more "free" at dinner). And if I want a snack I chew gum (Extra sugar free) or eat a piece of fruit. I am also riding my exercise my exercise bike for about 30 minutes a night (3 or 4 times a week, sometimes more, depending on how I feel.) I'm not drinking carbonated beverages anymore either, only water or un-sweet tea (mostly water). I do sometimes put those powder flavoring packets in my water.
I also give myself one bad meal a week. And if I am craving something I let myself have it, but in moderation. for instance I wanted a hamburger the other day so I went to sonic and got one of there junior hamburgers for a buck. Only had like 310 calories. Now if you were to put fries and a soft drink with that you would take in ALOT more calories, but just the burger isn't that bad. All I had to drink with it was water. I wanted chick-fil-a the other day, so I got a chicken sandwich with a fruit cup and un-sweet tea. The entire meal was less that 480 calories, and was very filling. If I want a candy bar I eat a fun size.
I found a awesome web-site that I can access from my cell phone called www.calorieking.com, it will tell you the calorie count of everything on every restaurant menu, with and without sauce (i.e. mayo, mustard, ranch etc). I use it everytime before I eat out, better to know then to guess. You would be shocked at how unhealthy somethings that you would think as healthy are. For instance a Wendy's Garden Sensations, Homestyle Chicken BLT, with Croutons & Dressing has 780 calories, 53.0g of fat and 42.0g of carbs in each salad!!! When I 1st saw that I was like OMG!!!!
When I cook at home I am using more fresh and frozen vegetables, JUST SAY NO TO THE CANS!! Using EVOO or butter flavored cooking spray or (0 calories & 0 fat) instead of butter or oil. Also using the I can't believe it's not butter spray (0 calories & 0 fat) on my vegatables after I cook them. I'm eating alot more chicken, turkey and fish.
The main thing is to learn that if you fall off the wagon, your next meal is your opportunity to get back on it. If you wait till the next day, you'll probably never do it. And don't beat yourself up if you mess up, cause everyone has done it, I know I have, but so long as you pick up the healthy eating habits your next meal all will be fine. And you will find after a period of time, you'll stop craving the bad stuff and start craving the good stuff. I know that for a FACT now!!!

My Goals:
I am tired of being fat, plain and simple. I am tired of my weight making me feel inadaquite. I am tired of feeling like i am an old woman when i am only 27. I am to young to feel this damn old. My goal is to be healthy and happy. To be smaller, alot smaller. then i am now. I want my daughters to grow up with good eating habits and not grow up to be fat like me.

My Program:
I am basically just eating low cal and getting exercise. No carbonated drinks, only un sweet tea (almost a sin for a southern girl). I just started P90X. We'll see how that goes!
