Cooking My Way To Health and Fitness
In May 2008 I committed to changing the way I live my life. I recognized that my body was now that of a fully mature adult and that it wouldn't bounce back as it used to. I accepted that, unless I worked to improve the quality of food I was eating and activity that I was getting, I'd be on the path to disease and further deterioration of my joints. I decided that I was unwilling to give up the opportunity for a healthy, active life, and started making some changes. Since then ...
Since then I've had good patches and bad patches. I'm proud to say that I've learned a lot about myself through both of them! I'm not as proud of the fact that I still allow myself to engage in unhealthy behaviours. I do, however, try to be patient and loving with myself. It took 40 years to develop these habits and coping strategies, so it'll take some time and determination to step away from them. I've also started moving my life along the path that I've wanted to take for 20 years -- I'm now attending culinary school and studying to become a chef. My goal is to graduate with a degree in culinary nutrition and, ultimately, work in a eldercare setting to bring fresh, seasonal, healthy and delicious food to a population that's routinely underserved. We may be part of that population one day, so I'm working to create conditions I'd like to live under! Here's my current list of rewards: 208.8 (45) - new book OR pedicure OR MAC product 203.8 (50) - romantic weekend/night out with hubby 199.9 -- Party! Bring out the champagne! 198.8 (55) - pedicure OR new magazine OR new nail polish OR new lipstick/gloss OR new MAC product 193.8 (60) - pair of earrings OR MAC makeover and new products (up to 3) 188.8 (65) - pedicure OR new magazine OR new nail polish OR new lipstick/gloss OR new MAC product 183.5 (70) - new jeans, new dress and new shoes 178.8 (75) - elliptical or rowing machine (if I haven't gotten one yet) or gym membership Other potential rewards: night out (club or movies); romantic weekend with hubby!; new wardrobe (goal?) Plus, some weekly rewards just for keeping OP: - Bath!!!!! - At-home pedicure Many things have changed since I joined Spark, but some haven't. I'm still with my husband and still value creating our home and our life together. I still feel the effects of the cervical spinal surgery I had in July 2007, though my neck and shoulders are far stronger than they had been. I've gotten more patient with myself and more comfortable with what my body can do -- and am discovering that it can do far, far more than I often give it credit for! "I belive in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe in kissing. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles." -Audrey Hepburn
