I've had weight trouble most of my life, trying many of the popular diets and gaining back everything each time! No matter how hard I tried, I'd end up falling completely off plan, vowing to never diet again!

I started Low Carbing about 4 yrs ago, mainly to prevent onset of diabetes, which is rampant in my family. I feel so much better on LC, it's amazing. I have fallen off plan a few times, just like we all do I guess. I have been able to prevent gaining it all back tho!!! I'm now 70+ pounds lighter than I was when I started LC.

I believe that low carb is a dietary approach that most of us should be following.
I believe we need to stop eating so many processed foods and return to whole, natural foods.
I believe that fat is not harmful, at least non-idustrialised fats. Natural fats found in whole foods are what we're meant to eat.
I believe that saturated fats are essential for good health and not the demon they've been portrayed as.
I believe industrial oils, those that do and do not contain trans-fats are dangerous and should not be used whenever possible. Industrial oils include soy, corn and canola, all highly processed.

I am passionate about low carb and how healthful it is. I've seen dramatic improvements in lipids, inflammation and symptoms of various problems. The weight loss part is great....but the way I feel and the healthier I've become make me glad I listened to Dr Atkins on TV one night.

News flash! The ADA now recommends low carb as well as low fat, reduced calorie diet for diabetics trying to control their weight. There are caveats, but it's a start!

My Goals:
Follow a low carb plan to loose a bit more weight, but mainly to improve my health.

Avoid diabetes, maintain non-diabetic blood sugars and A1c levels.

My Program:
Protein Power. I follow the middle of the road plan: The dilettante,
I avoid processed foods, and watch carb intake, but don't worry about fat intake....as long as it's natural and fresh.

Born and brought up in Massachusetts, relocated to NC in 1997.
I've been a RN for over 30yrs. I have worked in the computer industry, doing QA for a case management tool. Now back to full-time Case management!

Love to read. Love to research. Very upset about the direction our country is taking....both politically and in the area of health.

The plan that I am using is what's on my spark page. So far it's working, that is what I started to get going. I will change it as I get use to it all.

Beautiful Woman Award!
I got this this AM and instantly thought of you deserving one too! Once you've been given this award for a first time, you should paste it on the wall of 8 women (why 8? not sure, that's the rules as they were said to me... choose less if you really want to but, the more you give out, the more of your friends will feel special today and isn't that fun!?!) who deserve it.

If you receive some in return, you know you're really beautiful! If you break the chain, nothing will happen (I hate those sort of posts like this which promise bad things and never pass those on), but it's always good to know someone thinks you're beautiful inside and out and don't you want your lady sparkfriends to feel beautiful today?
