Hi. I am a 59 year old female who has had 2 pregnancies and given up smoking 16 years ago. Always before the pounds would just drop off me but this time it has gotten the better of me. Need all of the encouragement I can get. I am returning. Lost 52 pounds on Atkins 2 years ago but have gained back 20 since I got off of it. Have trouble controlling my food cravings now. The doctor told me that I have insulin insensitivity...no wonder...I am an apple and obese and that causes insulin ...
The doctor told me that I have insulin insensitivity...no wonder...I am an apple and obese and that causes insulin resistance. This is going to be the last time that I ever have to lose this much.
I want to be healthy, sleep well and soundly, and have the stamina to dance the way I used to dance. I want to feel good about my appearance again and not look in the mirror and think "Who is that?"
Exercising and eating 75% fresh foods and organic foods when I can find them. Watching my portions and drinking at least 8 glasses of filtered water daily. Limiting my calories to between 1200 and 1500 and burning off at least 700 cal a week.
My true beginning weight was 227 in Feb of 2011. Lost 20 in 4 months by just watching myself and my portions. Went on Atkins for 4 months and lost 32 more but felt deprived and cholesterol was going up. Got off Atkins and gained 20 back. Then started back with SparkPeople just eating lower carbs than the tracker has for me. Have lost 9 pounds since then.
WOO HOO!! One of my friends (who was a friend before my sparkpeople days) actually made a comment the other day that lets me know that my new healthier lifestyle is influencing her personal health decisions!!! I have hoped for this, that friends and family would be inspired by the changes they see in me!!! I believe that our health is the most important determinant (at least that is in our control) in our happiness as we age and mental, physical, and spiritual health are equally important, in my eyes...for each aspect affects the others.......
for responding to my question about healthy breakfast ideas. I do know I should eat a healthy snack in between breakfast and lunch. However, I have a very active job working as a surgical nurse and I rarely if ever even get to use the restroom much less be able to eat a snack. And we are not supposed to bring any food back to the surgical suites with us for our and patients safety.
I was going to give you a goodie but you don't have your page setup to give you one! Thanks again!!!
You know who taught me to greet newcomers? Sparkers like MINDBODYANDGOAL, KIMI_SILVA, THEREALWITCHYG and GETSTRONGRRR
Some of them have come and gone from Spark. But I never took it personally. I just took the "light and love" and passed it on...to you.
Your turn now. When you want to...when you have time...
