My Goals:
I joined SparkPeople after Iíd been working on weight loss for a couple of months. My program dramatically improved at that point, and by March 2006 I lost about 50 pounds--almost a third of my highest body weight. I love the tracking features, information, and support of SP and now use them to maintain a healthy weight. I exercise as much as my limitations (post-polio syndrome) allow.

My Program:
Using the tools and the information here, Iíve learned to eat sensibly, limit portions, drink water extravagantly and alcohol in moderation, and savor everything. I walk laps in a pool at a local hospital three days a week. I use a DVD called Gentle Fitness (www.gentlefitness.com) when the pool is not available. I'm learning to meditate. And I joined the National Weight Control Registry in October 2006.

Personal Information:
My polio-weakened muscles have spent a lifetime being overstressed by regular daily activity, like walking and climbing stairs. At this point they have no ability to gain strength, so my best bet is to carefully conserve my limited capacity and do gentle exercise to tone what can be toned without fatigue.

Other Information:
I'm a longtime editor for a science policy organization, and after dealing with other people's data for so many years, I'm fascinated by having my own personal nutritional data set to play with on the SparkPeople web site. I love to cook and I'm enjoying the challenge of doing it in healthier ways. And I have a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, whoís a lot smarter for her species than either my husband or me.

Hi Christine,
How are you, Think of you often and hope your mom is going ok. You look great. What cd's are you doing? I've had a foot infection from a foot surgery back in October and I am finally getting back to walking and back on the mend. Think of you everytime I make your sweet potatoe soup. Hugs, Wanda
