New Year and New Efforts to get and stay Fit

Joined July 4, 2009 - I am lucky to be retired and after years of putting on (with occasional small losses) the pounds, this is IT! I'm getting fit for good. I love to hike and do things outside, so I have lots of motivation.

I plan to keep up on exercising and eating healthy to get to my body fat down. The more hiking the better!!

My Goals:
Lose some weight!!

While I kept up activity in 2012, I didn't lose any weight - I need to be more diligent tracking!

More fun goals - Take several backpack trips, cross-country ski more and do something new I've never done before- TBD!!

My Program:
I hike, snowshoe, go to the gym, and occasionally bike. I hope to challenge myself more and be more active. I need to watch my portion sizes better, too!

To get more specific (which I think I need to be!) :

Really try not to take seconds! (wait 15 min)

Do strength training or Pilates at least 2x a week
Take a hike or equivalent (eg, long bike ride, x-c ski) at least 2x a week
Get sweaty doing something aerobic at least 5 days a week
- which means EVEN if its raining!!

Personal Information:
I live in Lincoln, CA. I'm retired, so a big 'activity' of mine now is trying to get in better shape. I love to hike, snowshoe, x-country ski and bike.

Thank you for your kind comment on my "The Good News and The Bad News" blog. We're still doing yoga (harder than I thought!) and still keeping our fingers crossed. After such a stressful last week I'm just now starting to Spark again and trying to get a little caught up. Hope you're having a nice weekend. emoticon

Thanks for your comment on my blog! I did find the trailhead to Hite's Cove and started up it, unfortunately my friend was having trouble with the elevation and needed a much flatter and easier trail. I saw a few beautiful wildflowers, and I REALLY wanted to continue, but we went on into Yosemite and did easy trials.

That's so funny that you are leading that hike. Small world. I forgot that I signed up for it so when you mentioned it I checked and sure enough I was signed up. I will be out of town tough so I just dropped and see you have a 7 person wait list so glad I didn't remember at the last minute. I'm sure I'll see you on another hike. Have fun!

Got your message and I'm sure we belong to a lot of the same hiking groups. You don't look familiar as I was only hiking beginner hikes until lately where I have moved to intermediate. I think you are a much more advanced hiker than I am so we probable go on different hikes. I try to stay under 9 miles and not more than climbing 1000 elevation.

If you belong to Hikers and Co I posted on the board a few days ago when Shanon (think that's the leaders name) asked about hikes people want to go on. I told her about a new trail that will be open soon to the public in Salmon Falls. I went on it with the American River Conservancy. You can go to the posts and see a picture of me if I look familiar but I thought you might want to know about the hike for your own hikes. It's 26 acres and I left an e-mail on the post for the person to contact if you want to go with ARC to preview before they open it to the public. Ours was 6 miles and the area is gorgeous. See you on the trails!

Thanks for your comments on my blog, and for the recommendation for the wildflower hike near Yosemite. It sounds FABULOUS!
