I started at 302 and at the time of creating this profile I weighed 279. I just turned 24 in May and want to be in shape by my 25th birthday. It's an aggressive goal, I know, but it is what I am striving for.
I've struggled in the past losing weight. The lowest I got was 265 and that was just taking a diet pill, exercising a little, and eating a little less than normal. I always plateaued and gave up. I also drank a lot when trying to lose weight which made me hungrier and I ended up breaking my "diet" quite a bit which lead to giving up.
When I hit 302 in mid April, I decided something had to happen. Something needed to change. So, I started using my exercise bike every day. I bought it in February thinking I would use it and after about 2 weeks I stopped. But when I saw 302 on the scale, I knew I needed to make it a habit. I've heard that the most effective exercise is the one that you will do. So, I decided that instead of coming home from work and sitting down to watch TV before bed, I would ride the bike. So I started there.
I quit drinking cokes and cut fast food out of my diet. This was hard because at work, we are often treated to lunch which can be fast food or pizza and of course sodas. People don't seem to like to eat healthy. So, I had to make a choice to start bringing my own food and sticking to it. By the first week in may, I reached 294 and decided to start documenting my progress as a way of staying motivated. So, I started taking pictures of myself every Monday and recording the weight.
By May 20th, I reached 289 and downloaded MyFitnessPal for iPhone. I started counting calories. I struggled a little but still made progress. I researched diets and foods that will help boost the metabolism and learned as much about nutrition as I could. Finally, I decided to try the Paleo Diet. I knew that in order for it to be effective, it couldn't just be a diet, but a new way of life. So, I got rid of all the junk food and candy that I would eat.
I've gone through a lot in the last 4 months- I've gotten a divorce, I'm now a full time single father, and had a tumor removed from the bottom of my left foot. But, I keep myself motivated and I focus on the end goal because I know that it will all be worth it at the end!
I've lost 50 lbs since I started in May- I'm halfway there!
My goal is to be at 200 lbs by March, 2014. If I can hit that goal, I'll reward myself by getting a motorcycle. A new one, not a junker or run-down one- after all I'll have dropped 100lbs!
At least 30 minutes of cardio every day and 30 minutes of weights at least every other day.
Paleo Diet. No wheat or grains. No candy, foods with added sugar, or sodas. No "processed foods" or foods with preservatives. No fast food. No alcohol. Fish, beef, pork (no bacon or sausage), and poultry are great, but not deep fried. Plenty of veggies- some of my favorites are broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, green beans, sweet potatoes, salads, and greens. Plenty of fruits- some of my favorites are Gala Apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, tomatoes, and mangoes.
Born and raised in Arkansas. A beautiful and mostly friendly state, but also a place where you can get just about anything deep fried. Growing up eating everything from chicken to ice cream that's been deep fried can pack on some long-lasting hard fat. I live in North Little Rock with my amazing son and work in West Little Rock.
