I've been here at SP since June 10, 2006. It took me 6 months to lose 10 pounds. I'm now down 20 lbs...I'm turtling you might say. I try to be patient although it isn't in my nature. I have about 20 more lbs to go but plan on losing them slowly so this way of living and eating will be with me forever and not just as a "diet" to lose weight.
I'm a painter/artist professionally. Fatigue from RA is keeping me down some energy wise( I'm currently in remission). I'll have to take it slowly losing some weight first and then back to the gym. I haven't been doing the exercise as I should and that is slowing me down. That can be another goal for 2008...more time being active no matter what kind. ...even 10 minutes here and there.

I started at 190 #......couldn't believe I would EVER be this weight. I got married 45 years ago and only weighed 118 at 5'8".

If anyone is interested in what I do with my art, just check my website at

OOPS... I've been gone and now I gained all the weight back. I'm trying to make a fresh start.

My Goals:
I listed my weight at 190 and just couldn't believe I've ever gotten this much weight on. And I set a goal of 155 although 10 years ago I only weighed 135. Now that I have this weight I found out I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. I'm off meds now but I am so TIRED all the time. I can't seem to get the energy and the will power to exercise.
2009..Now, I've found out I am hypothyroid, corrected with synthroid.

I know quite a bit about nutrition but serving sizes have really gotten out of hand. I'm hungry all the time. I'm tracking my calories, sodium, fiber, etc.

My Program:
I'm using the food tracker, and joined a couple of groups.

First I'm measuring food as my idea of a serving is way out of whack.

I'm drinking a lot more water.

Personal Information:
I live in rural northeastern Texas. I'm a professional visual artist , wife, mother of three, three grandchildren. I am 64.

Other Information:
After family, almost all my time is spent thinking about and making art (paintings).

I enjoy travel and made my first trip to Europe in 2000. Now my husband of 45 years calls me a "jet-setter" since I go for a month at a time every few years.

Hi Helen....all my tests came back normal after 9 months on mtx so I made my doctor release me. I don't take anything now and am slowly getting some energy back. ...just not like before. I do have a little cramping in my toes, and my wrists are tender at times. When I go to my daughter's house with lots of stairs, my left knee twinges me but other than than and the fatigue, I'm doing well. I just hope it continues as RA is such a weird disease and affects everyone differently. My doctor commented once that I might be lucky I didn't get it until I was 60.

Now if I could just lose weight that would take a lot of stress off the joints.

    Hi, Cheryl,
I stopped by your page when I read that you too have RA. It's a nice page, with a great picture of you and your painting.

I too am supposed to be in remission but have a lot of problems with fatigue and low energy. Also I still have trouble with my knees, wrists, and hands, even though I'm 100% better than I've been in the past. I am on methatrexate and Enbrel. What about you? I've found Enbrel to be a wonder drug, although the injections are inconvenient. Hope you've found something equally effective for yourself.

    All the best,
