The 5K went well. I ran it in 30:58. My goal was 30 or less but I had to stop and walk about 40+ seconds due to severe nausea around 1.5 mile marker. I ate a half of a banana and about two bites of a 1/2 bagel to fuel up beforehand. I should've skipped that because anytime I eat before working out, I always ALWAYS get nauseous. Ugh. But I beat my previous two times from the previous years and I ran the entire time (except those 40 seconds). So I'm proud of my efforts.
Plus, my sweetie was at the finish line, waiting for me and cheering me on so that was a good site to see that drove me to finish strong and fast!
Zumba is super fun and you will find that it is hard to get bored with it. You probably will stick with it..even if it is only once every week or every two weeks. I still try to sneak in a zumba session from time to time.
for me, my motivation is my health. I was told I was going to die before I was 30 and I love life too much to die before 30. So every time I felt like giving up, I thought about dying and that pushed me harder. Also, I put a before picture of myself on my fridge. That deterred me from overeating and convinced me to go to the gym when I'd be sitting on the couch and glance up at it.
As for calories burned during Zumba...I had a heart rate monitor that I would wear that would count the calories I burned during my 60 minute zumba classes that I used to take. At the weight you're currently listed as on your ticker, I'd say you would burn approximately 450-550 calories per hour, at minimum. Quite possible if you really bust your butt at it, you could burn upwards of 600 calories per hour.
