Cooking the pounds off

I'm a full time student and a professional pastry chef trying to lose the pounds without giving up what I love. It's not really about the goal weight for me--It's about getting to a place where I am at peace with the person I see in the mirror.

Hey! Welcome to Spark People. It is a great resource for a healthy life style. I had lost 142 pounds but recently moved to LA and gained 20 pounds. I am determined to get it off. I am a bit obsessed with SP because it has helped me more than any thing else I have tried. I battled weight my whole life also. It is now a choice and not a battle. I am active for the first time in years. I ride my bike 20-30 miles at least 5 days a week. I run a little and do strength training daily. It is still amazing to me. I was such a couch potato before. I had oral surgery a few days ago and I am dying to get back on my bike. I really, really miss it! (so weird for me) I lived in Hermosa Beach in the late 80s and am now in Van Nuys (temporarily). I am looking for a job currently so I have a lot of time on my hands. I try to spend a lot of it riding, run/walking or generally moving. I still struggle with my food choices but at least now I have a proven plan. I haven't really met many people here yet since I'm not working. If you ever want or need someone for support shoot me a spark email. I would love to meet you. One thing I discovered a while ago, it is really helpful in all kind of ways to get to know some SP friends, both on line and in person. Sometimes they are what keeps me on the straight and narrow, esp when I am feeling weak. It can be easier to talk to a SP friend about this stuff than a friend in your day to day life. Welcome to the kid free zone! Yell if you need anything and good luck on your journey.

emoticon emoticon emoticon WELCOME TO SPARK!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon
Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time. A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.

1. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.

2. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.

The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Spark friends are here for support, motivation and encouragement. Good luck on your journey to a healthier lifestyle! Again, welcome to the SP family!
