Second Time Around

This is my second time to join Spark People. In 2003 I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, and immediately went on a weight loss journey (along with exercise) and lost 40 pounds. I "got lazy" over the past few years and 11 pounds have found their way back. I want to lose those again, plus 20 more as my doctor said he thought if I would lose 30 I could get completely off my medication. So that is my goal. And to be more fit and healthy too!!

My Goals:
Lose 30 pounds by the beginning of summer.

My Program:
Less food in mouth.
More exercise.

I will aim for about 1200 - 1500 calories per day, and exercise or walk 5 - 6 times per week for 30 - 60 minutes each time.

Personal Information:
Married to a farmer (corn, soybeans, wheat) and part-time crop insurance adjuster. I am a retired waitress. We have two grown children and 7 grands.

Other Information:
I enjoy reading, camping, hiking, walking in the woods, flower gardening, cooking/baking, music, movies, bird watching, travel, NASCAR, bowling, photography.

Hi there,
Like you, I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 (in July 2010) and I've had to lose weight on doctor's orders. Three stone down and counting but I've come to a standstill and need remotivating ... which is why I've joined SparkPeople emoticon

Hi and welcome to Spark People where you will find lots of information and tons of support and encouragement from all our members. You will find that we also have fun along the way. Drink your 8-8oz glasses of water a day (If you only drink one now, add to as you are able until you are drinking your 8 cups or more a day), watch your portion control (measure everything in the beginning...guaranteed it will get easier) and walk, dance or do any exercise you enjoy (start with 10 minutes a day or several times a day and add to it as you are able or have time). Use your fitness and nutrition tracker daily (guaranteed to work if you use them consistently and honestly). Pick one thing to change...one thing at a time. Don't try to change to many things at once as that can be very overwhelming. Just try to take one step, one minute, one hour, one day, one week at a time. They honestly will all add up to the bigger numbers. These tips will definitely help in lowering your numbers and increasing your ability to enjoy life. Don't expect miracles right away...this is a lifestyle change not a diet. You will be much healthier in the long run. Post any concerns, comments or questions you may have and someone will respond quickly.
Start each day with a positive thought just for that day. Reading and reflecting on an inspirational thought or message before you start your day can put you in a positive frame of mind.
Your thoughts determine whether you have a good day or a bad day. Fill your mind with positive ideas, suggestions, and thoughts. You will find it will change your attitude and changing your attitude can change your life.
Sometimes just reading an inspirational quote or a short paragraph helps one see the positive in a situation. Sometimes as your day progresses you just need to take a break...Take a mental break and read or think about a message of inspiration.
Never underestimate your power to change and improve! You are a good person, with wonderful qualities, and you can reach your goals!

emoticon Welcome to Spark. You have taken an important step on your journey by joining!
I've been a member almost 3 years. I made fantastic progress and lost 100 pounds in the first year BUT I became careless about nutrition and exercise and have gained a lot of the pounds back! I became disgusted with myself and closed my Spark account, but soon realized I NEEDED to be here. I'm back using the nutrition and exercise trackers now - they are so important. The sense of community and the friendships I have made here keep me going!
