Finally... taking care of me.
I'm a homeschool Mom, born and bred in Arkansas, married for 20 years, raising 2 boys. I do wear shoes, but only when I have to! I have spent all of my life taking care of other people, but ignoring myself. Well, you can only bump along with that for so many decades before it catches up with you. In 2009, at age 37, I had to begin taking blood pressure medicine. By summer of 2010, the weight just kept coming on. I had neither the time nor the energy to do anything about it. My physical, mental, and emotional well-being were at an all-time low. In the month of my 39th birthday, I felt like I had one last chance to get it together and take care of ME. If I didn't get a grip on my health, I would never be able to accomplish so many of the things I wanted in life. I was not going to be able to reap the benefits of getting older and seeing all I'd worked for come to fruition. I was heading for disaster, and I could see it coming. I have never been one to exercise on purpose. I love gardening, yardwork, and hiking, but I can do those things at any pace. I knew I had to get drastic. SO I began to RUN! Then I started tracking everything that went into my mouth. As I have run, tracked, and studied so much about nutrition; I have become a newer, better, never-would-have-believed-it ME. Several factors played a role in my successful health turn around: a supportive family, a great training program provided by the LR Marathon (free), SP tools and trackers, and the SparkFriends I have made who have encouraged me and cheered me on every step of the way. SP tools keep me motivated and running keeps me empowered!
