BREAKOFDAWN

I am 53, happily married (30 years and counting), 3 children: one married, two in college. Currently an empty nester for the first time in 27 years. I homeschooled our 3 children so this is a big adjustment for me. I have not struggled with weight until hitting the menopause stage. Ideally my goal is to lose 15 pounds. I also want to learn how to do a pull up before Christmas.

Hi Dawn!

Thanks for checking on me with regards to the race. I completed the race and beat my goal, so I'm happy! My goal was to finish in an hour and 15 minutes, and I completed it in 1:13:22. WOOHOO! emoticon

Thanks for the box of "Puffs", this past month I've really needed them! Highs and lows all month long. The biggest change has been moving my in-laws off the farm they've lived on (across the road from our place) for the past 54+ years. That happened this past week, we finished the move over the weekend. Physically and emotionally draining. I intend to blog about it, but have been to tired and scatter brained to get it done. Thank you again! Hope you have a blessed week!

Hi Dawn,

Thanks for the compliments on the picture. :) My 2.5 year old daughter took it with my phone.

As far as the weight training is concerned, I'm doing the workouts that are in "The Body Fat Solution" book. They alternate between Workout A & Workout B. There is a quick warmup (same for both) and the warmup is:

Arm Circles - 15 forward/15 backward
Tai chi twists - 15 to each side
Trunk circles 10 in each direction
Body weight prisoner lunges - 15 per leg
Push-ups or push-ups off knees - 15

Workout A is:
A1 Dumbbell squat
A1 Bird Dog
A2 Dumbbell split squat
A2 Dumbbell row
A3 Dumbbell bench press
A3 Plank
A4 One-legged toe raises

Workout B is
B1 Romanian dead lift (using dumbbells)
B1 Shoulder press (with dumbbells)
B2 One-legged hip extension
B2 Dumbbell pullover
B3 Reverse crunch
B3 Cross knee crunch
B4 Dumbbell curl
B4 Two-dumbbell extension

Alternate workouts, so for week 1, you'd do Workout A, then B, then A. For week 2, you'd do Workout B, then A, then B And so on.

You do each pair of exercises (see pairing up above) for 2 minutes, then rest for 1 minute. After that, cool down for 5 minutes.
