I've lost 100+ pounds... My next goal is to complete a marathon! :)
Hey guys, I'm sorry I have been missing in action for a few months. It was a rough summer with some life changing events along the way. I lost my grandfather in July, and I've decided to participate in the Los Angeles Marathon in his memory. I'm trying to get back into blogging, and I plan to post updates here about my training progress along the way. For those of you new to my page (and me in general) -- Hi, I'm Amy! It's nice to meet you :) I'm in my late twenties, and after struggling with my weight for most of my life, I finally gave up the yo-yo dieting (that eventually led me down the path to obesity anyway!) and changed my LIFESTYLE. I was realistic and accepted that long-term weight loss wouldn't happen overnight. I've lost well over 100 pounds, as you can see from my before and after photos to the left :) I changed my diet by making healthy choices (which I promise I will get around to blogging about), and I also worked very hard at burning calories, too. I logged hours on the Elliptical each week, and I also enjoyed walking and hiking. Eventually I began jogging. Losing my grandfather was a difficult experience for me, as it would be for anyone. It was also life changing, because he raised me, and I was his caregiver for most of my twenties. I saw him everyday. I bathed him, helped him with meal preparation, gave him his medication, etc. He was my best friend, and we had a lot of fun together. Even though he just lived a mile away, he would spend the night at my apartment at least once a week, and we would rent movies and enjoy dinner. I feel very fortunate I had him in my life for 28 years, he passed peacefully and I got to say goodbye, but I still miss him very much. I decided I wanted to do something to honor him, maybe run a 5K, but then I started reading about the Los Angeles Marathon and realized it would be possible for me to prepare in time for the March 20, 2011 event. All of a sudden, 5K didn't seem like ENOUGH! :) Since his passing, I've fallen in love with running and it's almost as though I can't bring myself to stop. It's a wonderful free and healthy escape, and my cousin has decided to join me and participate in the Marathon as well! Wish us luck :)
