[June 2012] Reached the low end of the doctor's weight goal for me (he said he wanted me at 160-170, & I actually hit 159 last week), & while the pounds seem to continue to come off, it's happening MUCH more slowly now. Now I'm curious where my body will choose to settle as it's 'average weight'; while I'd love to get to my forever-goal of 150, I'd be happy around this weight too. Since losing all that weight (91lbs omg), now I'm working to tone up what's left of me and improve my general health. Still working through the work-related back injury from 12/10, but the spine rehab I'm doing right now is fantastic and I'm very hopeful for a return to better function. :D

[April 2011] A double diagnosis whammy of celiac disease and type 2 diabetes in June 2010 changed my life forever; I can never eat the same way I used to. But there's been a benefit: I've lost nearly 60lbs since then thanks to the change in diet combined with portion control & smarter food choices, & the weight is still gradually coming off. After a workplace injury in December 2010, I was diagnosed in March 2011 with two displaced thoracic discs & the resulting pain has made life pretty sucky, but I am doing my best to stay active and striving to strengthen my back in hopes that the disc problem will resolve itself (so far, no luck, but I remain hopeful).

[5/26/10] After years of believing myself to be reasonably healthy (bad knees & frequent migraines aside), May of 2010 proved otherwise; a trip to the ER for chest pain started a chain of events that would reveal a plethora of medical issues that I was previously unaware of. 'Tis a bit daunting to have it all piled on me at once, but what can you do but deal with it & carry on..that said, my body is clearly letting me know that I need to take better care of it, so I've reset all of my SP goals & am making a concerted effort to live a healthier life. After all, this is the only body I get in this life..

[1/9/10] Here we go again. You know, I was always very slim. I used to get teased about it in school, I was unhealthily thin (anorexic) for a while as an adult (got down to 100lbs..WAY too thin for being 5'10"), and I used to laugh at the thought that I could ever be overweight. Yet here I am, and I am traumatized by the fat woman in the mirror; I think part of my problem is denial. That can't possibly be me..

But it is. And it's time to fix that. So here we go!

[6/30/09] My big plans at the beginning of the year were thwarted by knee problems, which put a huge damper on my exercise/calorie burning ability. Did some PT for a while in an attempt to avoid surgery & got some exercise that way, but am kind of in limbo now; sadly, I'm still huge & DO NOT LIKE IT.

So tomorrow, as the second half of the year begins, I will be beginning anew as well. More cautious about what I put in my mouth, and more diligent about getting what exercise I can..this weight's not going to come off on its own, & not knowing when my knees will be 'fit' again, I can't wait for them any longer. Time to get proactive and do something! Wish me luck!

[late Dec. '08] I am currently heavier than I have ever been, and some holiday photos (oh lord what a nightmare!) were just the incentive I needed to light a fire under my arse. So I'm back & ready to get healthy again; this being huge thing is not going to cut it. I can do this..

[Feb. '08] After losing 30lbs last year, I quit my blue collar job & moved cross country..and gained back all the weight I'd lost, as well as about another 10 lbs *groan*. So it's back to the drawing board for me..AGAIN..*sigh*

[Aug '07] I lost about 25 lbs as of March of '07, and for some reason lost all motivation after that. Now that I'm engaged & have a wedding date of 4/4/08, it's time to drop those last 25-30lbs! So I've reset my Spark plan & am starting over from scratch; it worked with the first 25 lbs, hopefully it'll do the same with the last 25 lbs! I still get compliments from people who hadn't seen me since I lost the first 25lbs..just wait until they see me when I've lost all 55 lbs! :D

[Jan '07] I was always slim until I quit smoking in January of 2002; then the pounds gradually started piling on. I justified it to myself as long as I was under 200lbs; being 5'10", I can carry more weight than a shorter woman might be able to without looking obese. Then, that number on the scale clicked over the 200lb mark, and it was time to do something.

I joined SP in spring of '06 & did things half heartedly and alone, until the new year began; then I decided that if I was going to do it, I was going to do it right. I created this page, joined & became active in some Spark Teams, & am motivated to get it right this time. Almost 15 lbs later (so far..hehe), I'm happy to be learning and implementing healthier lifestyle habits, & it's a true delight to see that number on the scale gradually falling.

Thank you for your comments :-) I keep telling myself "one day at a time". As for the kitten, oddly we thought she was a boy and named her Gemini as she, me and my dh were all Gemini's--turns out she was a girl lol, so the name is most appropriate. She is a blessing--playful and always a source of a smile.

Eliminating gluten from your diet can do lots of things. Both my daughter and I were evaluated by our respective docs and tested for gluten sensitivity. We are both negative but info on the street has it that one can still be sensitive to gluten. News flash: Gluten can affect joints and elimination of gluten can improve joint issues. Good luck with it! It's a tough diet. Believe it or not, my grocery has an entire corner of the natural food section set aside for gluten-free foods! That's where I find most of my non-dairy, organic, stuff.

Let me know how it goes, eliminating gluten from your diet. I've been getting suggestions that I should do the same because, believe it or not, it might imrove my allergies and asthma???

Howdy! Saw you in the member list for our SFBayArea local team and thought I would say hi. I'm trying to connect with more locals in the event we try to organize workouts or social get togethers.
