A Work in Progress
24 years old and looking for a healthier life for myself and husband. I have been successful at weight loss before, with my highest weight at that time being 206lbs. I worked hard on WW for a few months and managed to get that down to just under 180. I was feeling great and it was showing! Even with just around 25lbs gone, some people I had not seen in a while did not recognize me. Of course, I gained every pound back over 3 years and now it is start-all-over time! I am hoping ...
I am hoping this time is different and so far, it feels different! My husband and I are simply committing to lose 50lbs each in 2012. Our goal is to lose 1lb a week - not too intense that we will feel deprived, but fast enough that over the course of the next year, changes will happen. Here is our plan: - 1 lb a week gives us a higher calorie range than what we have tried to maintain in the past when wanting to lose weight faster. For example, in my countless weight loss efforts, the start of my range was as low as 1200 calories. Now my range starts at 1410, which gives me extra wiggle room. - We are tracking what we eat, no matter what. Before, whenever we over-ate, we would just consider the whole day gone, leave it blank and continue to eat however much we wanted because the day or week was already blown. This just led to us forgetting our goals and giving up. Now, by tracking religiously, we stop ourselves from going overboard. 200 calories over our limit is better than 600! - We will add exercise when we can but for now, we want to keep it simple so that we do not get overwhelmed. Maybe a bit of Wii Fit, or a nice walk, but nothing intense just yet. - No "cheat" days or days "off". This is not a job! This is a lifestyle. If we want a piece of pie for dessert, we can have it. We have to track it and make it fit in our day. If we are not satisfied with the food we are eating, we will fall off track and gain the weight back. To that end, we are following the philosophy in the Spark People Cookbook that if we can make healthy food taste good and be satisfying, than we will eat more of it and be more successful on our journey.
